Skynet is Real: Buffed AI (?)

Ok, so during the Great PSN Outage of 2011 I played the ladder multiple times a day (on expert) and while the computer did some impossible punishes and reads and stuff, it wasn't all that tough even when I was first picking up the game. So now yesterday when I got Rain I played around with him in the practice room for a while and then got the urge to take him up the Arcade ladder. Holy &%* the komputer AI was absolutely vicious. I had never seen anything like it. Suddenly it was stringing together wacked out 30-40% combos on the regular and reading my every move the same frame I executed it.

So I thought "ok it's probably because I just don't know Rain and it seemed like I was getting a worse ass whipping than I really was." So I grab my main and head back and it's the same thing. I had to work my ass off to get through the ladder.

So my question to the kommunity is, has anyone else experienced this? Has NRS secretly been making MK smarter? Or have my kombat skills against the komputer atrophied.

I haven't really noticed any increase in the AI but they have always been able to read my mixups like only an AI in the game could lol.

Only on Harder and Expert levels are the AI able to surpass their usual 20% combos. I've not really seen anything like a 40% from a computer before, but I have experienced in the mid 30%. It all depends on your level. I usually like waiting for the computer to do something so I can punish, since they always take the initiative.

I swear sometimes I feel like I input my move / combo, the computer looks up the frame data for its character, and then does a move that will come out faster than mine. And of course it never fucks up its inputs.

That is exactly what it is doing, Reading your inputs and countering accordingly. If It's not freezing you with Sub or someone else's similar special, Then walking away. And the dumbest and cheapest AI in any fighting game ever award goes to....

Nope, it's always been relatively the same for me. It really pisses me off when you lose and during the Finishing Him part they just stand there until you fall down. Straight AI trollin'.

I just got bodied by a AI controlled Noob earliar today using shadow clone spam and blackhole resets. I though I was playing TrickyNick...

That is exactly what it is doing, Reading your inputs and countering accordingly. If It's not freezing you with Sub or someone else's similar special, Then walking away. And the dumbest and cheapest AI in any fighting game ever award goes to....

I think it does do random stuff in there too, and sometimes its just quick about it. Can't really know what its doing for sure without seeing the code. But it wouldn't suprise me if it was doing this.

Since I swore off playing online, I'm going to go back to playing the ladder. I like to pick Tag ladder and play the whole thing like a series of endurance rounds, but boy does that seem harder now than it did when the game came out.

almost every fighting game does this. That is why you can just dash cross over and always win. The AI reads a jump near them and they attack... which lets you land the crossover punch and a meaty combo. I'm pretty confident the code within the game always has a punishment for a projectile or on block.
You can not clone with Sub against any AI... they throw a projectile on reaction EVERY time. Its stupid and really not much fun after you figure it out. AI is very predictable at that point.

I can see the not wanting to play online bit but what are you going to achieve playing the AI? Even on max difficulty no1's ever going to get fighting game AI to play like a person and this games no different. The AI does some real stupid shit and also gets beaten by real stupid shit lol. Mixups just don't work yet constant d4's in the corner with Mileena get me flawless victories. Maybe I'm wrong but even if your playing online and get beat from lag you'd still learn more than playing against AI.

Unless your just doing it for fun or just praciticing combo's which would make sense I guess.

Btw did you post that noob blackhole setup vid? If so I checked out your youtube channel and from your online gameplay vids I can see why you don't like online xD If it is you then nice vids.
