What's new

I need help.

Ok so I am from a Street Fighter background and I play this game a lot like Street Fighter and get bodied by spammers.

The thing which has me most confused is the recovery time and how to punish. For instance I was playing this raiden online, with Liu Kang.

He teleported a lot and everytime he teleported I tried to do a 334 or 213 blockstring and he would just teleport again instantly and hit me. I then tried to do nothing and he immediately grabbed me. He was spamming supermans and I was stand blocking so as soon as I saw him start spinning I would release the block button and try to do a 213 combo and he would instantly teleport.

I feel its too hard to effectively zone in this game cos characters have such fast teleports and some even have unblockable moves. That is why I fear rushing down so much and sit there like a lame duck.

It also seems like some characters have block strings that are easily mashable and on block leave you right near the opponent. This would be good and all if they have a few more recovery frames to them.

Anyways, can someone help me learn how to punish in this game.

Also another thing I noticed is that in SF if you jump directly infront of someone and they go to throw you when you land, their throw will out prioritize any of your normals, so your only option is to throw tech. In MK it seems like block strings take priority.

Unfortunately MK9 does not work properly online. A lot of the issues you are having are most likely because of this single aspect. Offline is simply the only way to seriously play this game. If you MUST play online then make sure you have a good connection and so does your opponent.

Offline, the game has good balance for recoveries, move speeds, block strings, etc...

As far as transitioning from Street Fighter Vulcan Hades just made a post about this here: http://testyourmight.com/forum/showthread.php?8397-Bringing-Street-Fighter-Knowledge-to-MK9-(footsies)

Love the show guys, thank you so much for the info.

We have a small scene here in Eastern Iowa where we hold small monthly tournaments with a decent amount of players that come out and play MK9, MVC3, SF, etc.... But I want these numbers to grow. We've already posted on all the forums and we are thinking of putting up flyers in colleges, game stores, and visiting local LAN centers to harass the kiddies. Is there anything else you can recommend we do?

Please help us with awareness and mention our upcoming yearly tournament. Middle of Knowwhere Tournament in Cedar Rapids, IA, Sept. 24th. It's in the Tournament section at TYM and MKU. THANK YOU!!!
