Yeah, he took Jesse under his wing, payed for his rehab, saved his life countless times, helped him earn millions of dollars, then hooked him up with a guy that would give him a new identity so he could start a fresh and comfortable life anywhere he wanted. -She is selling Walt's favorite piece, the hideous crying clown which is in the same location as the knives and phone. Walt IS the hideous crying clown being sold to the police

- "You could take pity on us an take a pizza home, they're having a two for one special at vensomething, I could eat a whole one by myself." I feel like this could mean something too.

Walt definitely cared about Jess. That much has become clear in the series. Only when his family was threatened did he consider the option of getting Jess "taken care off". Also when Hank said: "He cares about you", that sounds to me like a third party "speaking the truth" like there is in a lot of series: There is always these situations where someone says something like "If he wanted you dead, you would be dead" and you just know it's the truth because the author/creator wrote it in as a "truth".

Also the clown theory: Reaching, but fun theory! Might be something to it, but I am not convinced!

How can anyone think Walter is evil? It's obvious he has good/love in his heart, especially for his family and even Jesse, who he considers family. Walter said Jesse was like a son to him, his greatest student.

You say this like cooking and peddaling meth while constantly fearing for your life and the life of your family is a good steady job to provide for your family. Are you just trolling at this point?

And for all those things he needed to make sure he wasn't a liability, and he still needed a partner, you could argue that all those things were done in walts interest.

I don't see how it matters if it was done in his best interest. If you give someone a million dollars because you'll get something better for doing it, it doesn't make that act of kindness any less beneficial. Walt may have done some of those things because he too benefited from it, but there shouldn't be any doubt that he cared for Jesse. Even after Jesse doused his house in oil, Walt was still the ONLY one who said killing Jesse for it wasn't an option. He really cared about the kid, and all the way up to the end, refused to believe he would snitch on him. The only time he decided to take Jesse's life was after Jesse threatened to get him where he really lived, which I believe Walt took it to mean his family.

And his actions in the recent episode where because instead of facing him like a man, Jesse went to the DEA and brought Hank into the crossfire which ultimately got him killed. Leaving Jesse to the Nazis and telling him about Jane was his revenge for Hank's death and the loss of 70 million dollars that he had made over the years. Just like Walt is unable to let go of his pride, Jesse was unable to take the good things he'd been handed and walk away. By coming back and snitching to the DEA, Walt lost everything he worked for (including his family) and Hank lost his life. And all this after Walt defended Jesse and his honor to the very end. Even when he knew Jesse had to be put down, he said that Jesse isn't a snitch, he's only misguided, and was family to Walt. I'd say it's understandable to rub salt in that person's wounds after you save them, help them, defend them, then they come back at you to ruin your life, legacy, and family. Anyway, sorry for the tl;dr. I was just bored, and this show is fun to discuss. I apologize if I seem abrasive, it's just the way I type. I enjoy talking about BrBa with you guys.

Okay yeah, thats fair enough. But a hell of a lot of the shit he did were in his interests not jessies strictly. But after that episode Jessie is dead to him

Jess wasn't exactly heading down the path that would lead to a wonderful life before Walt got in the picture either though. Walt definitely recruited Jess for selfish reasons though, but grew to care about the guy.

What's your real beef with the show? Why can't you just enjoy it for what it is? You can't relate? I think most of the population can relate to keeping secrets and the hard stress of bills from your family and putting the weight of the world on your shoulders so you can keep your family together and happy.

Walt was a fucking joke! He was scrubbing the wheels of one of his students corvettes...He gets his old millionaire/billionaire friend some ramen noodles that only Walts broke ass still knows where to buy it!!! You could even say Walt was in a bully situation with Hank...Walt snapped when Hank picked on him and then showed him all the money made by chemistry.

There is so much pent up aggression inside of Walt that has been eating and eating at him of what his family life could have been and if you have never felt something like that and your emotions get the best of you then God bless your soul.

This show isn't about the glorification of drugs...it's about taking a ride in the back pocket of Walt; a dying man willing to take the most evil path to better his family only to be blinded by his pent up past which he even creates an alter ego for named Heisenberg.

This show is an emotional ride...

2. Walt saved jesse from the gangbangers which is ultimately the reason why jesse had to kill gayle because Walt was about to be killed
3. Again, Gus was going to kill him and his entire family. He didn't poison brock out of spite
4.This one is fair because walt wanted jesse to stay with but in the end jesse stopped cooking anyway and received his money anyway.
5. countless lies and manipulation yea yea yea.

Don't forget that jesse is the reason Walt killed his first 2 people, Emilio and Krazy 8 and saved his life as well as jesse's life in the as well.

This weeks episode was sad.

I know, right? His son and wife turn on him and he grabs and runs for the only other member of the family that doesn't have judgement on him...I mean, his wife and him are a roll coaster, but once his son tackled him and called the police...heart breaking. It's like he grabbed the baby and just wanted to hear someone say they loved and needed him, but when the baby cries in the later scene it's when things come in to perspective for him.

Jesse and Skyler are characrers close to Walt, whom, throughout the course of the series, he manipulates and drags further and further into darkness. Remember how many fights Jesse and Walt had, how often Skyler tried, desperately, to do something, take children away, suicide, or just "wait for cancer to come back". In the end, they got used, succumbed to it. For a moment, Walt was in control. But any lie is exposed in time. Eventually, Walts misdeeds pile up and it becomes harder and harder to hide it. They start to realize its all falling apart. For Jesse, the breaking point was that cigarette. For Skyler its a little more complicated.

When Marie comes to Skyler, you can clearly see how relieved she is, to finally be free of lies and fear. She woke up. That is why she "turns on Walt" at home. Not because of Hank. Obviously she would swallow any lie Walt would throw at her, normally. She was farther than Jesse from Walt and his misdeeds and thus could be fooled easier. But she _didnt want to_ believe him. Not anymore. Not when everything seemed "resolved" a second before she saw Walt walk out of front door and realized that nightmare she's been living is not over.

Regarding Walts motivation behind the call, its difficult to say. The way Walt cried during that dialogue made him look full of remorse and sadness, rather than anger. Of course he's in full right to feel a little of everything, but most evidence do point that he knew there is a police and all he said was to protect what's left of his family. Him returning Holly is yet another proof of that.

I think it's clearly because she knew something happened to Hank. She wasn't relieved to see Marie she wanted her gone. The only reason she confessed and told Walt Jr is because she thought that it was all over and she had no other choice. When she sees Walt at home she is shocked because she knew that Hank had him arrested and that something wrong has happened to Hank. When she says "you killed hank" is when she finally flipped.

Question:

Why isn't anyone comparing the phone conversation at the start of the episode and the phone conversation at the end?

I believe what they were trying to do with this episode is close the loop.

That scene at the beginning of the episode I believe was supposed to symbolize several different things, but in regards to the call I believe:

- Opening scene, the first lie that Walter White had ever made to his wife about getting involved in cooking meth.
- Final Phone Conversation, the last lie that Walter White would ever make to his wife regarding his involvement.

I believe there are several other reasons (at least 3 I can think of off the top of my head), that that intro scene worked so well for the story they were trying to tell in this episode.

I believe this was the most well-written episode in the entire series from a story-telling perspective. There really was a tremendous amount of depth.

I think you've reiterated all of these points at least 3-4 times throughout the thread. It's all going over his head, let him keep the blinders on.

I think some people are watching the show with a moment to moment was that cool meter...
Some people are watching it thinking only about what's presented to them.
Some people are watching expecting all the characters on the show to have watched the show.
Some people are putting themselves in the characters situation...
And some people are seeing it through the characters eyes (in the moment with only the knowledge and views of that character)...for lack of a better explination....

None of these are right or wrong to do but I think that is where most of the disagrements are coming from...
