Hi TYM, new to fighting games here, looking to improove.

So, istarted with mk9 a couple months ago, got to a i guess really semi decent level as kitanna then got igau like a week ago, decided to play flash cause people say it has hard execution and if i want to improve i dont think picking up a spammer will help a lot with that.
Ok so here is my problem, i dont really have trouble with combos, but i REALLY have a hard time setting them up, when im blocking and try to go for a punish i still get hit, and when i can get some block pressure i just get full punished like its nothing.
Anyway, just looking for some guidance and sorry for the WALL OF TEXT.

PS: im not just another kid looking for some spoon fed information, i did a lot of research, ive been playing games all my life so i know what it takes to get good.

My Psn is soupmanne if anyone wanna help me improove. Thank you in advance TYM.

Im kind of lost about what to ask, what i have most trouble with as i stated in the OP is that when i try to conter atack after i block i still keep getting hit, and when i get pressure on them or even a knock down i wake up punished or they just get out of the pressure with full punishes, im not sure if its about my lack of understandment about frames or what.
The other thing is that, i know the combos, but i cant pull them off cause it seems i never have an oportunity to set them up, specially the f21 HCF1 mb trait etc, every time i go for that i get contered by something then i just spent the rest of the game being defensive.. and im sure you all know a defensive flash wont be able to do much, at least a begginer one.

and again sorry for the WALL.

Go into training mode, and check out your frame data in the move list. That's the best place to start. If you're getting full combo punished out of pressure, it's probably because you're trying pressure out of a string that you're negative in. You have to be smart when you do block strings. Try to end with moves that leave you at frame advantage or 0. Sometimes though, its better to just stop pressure, because no one in this game has air tight block tight block strings that they can do forever. When you get knockdowns, try to notice how your opponent handles them. If he likes to use wake-ups, then try to start baiting them. Depending on the character, you'll have to bait them in different ways to get punishes since a lot of wake-ups in this game are safe, such as neutral jumping, or you can go for crossups to screw up their input. Opening people up with Flash is eaiser than most. He has two go to strings. F21 which is an overhead starter, and D12 which is a low starter. Make sure you mix them up, because if you spend all your time doing F21 your opponent will just stand block, and you'll never get your hit confirm.

one more question, when do i know i can punish with a full damage combo or just with a d2 for example? is that oponent dependent?

tagging AK Harold. Probably one of the best Flash players here, if you are looking for more character specific knowledge

It depends on the frames of the move in question. Ideally anything about -7 or 8 and higher is punishable, but not always by full combo. Something like -15 or higher is generally full combo punishable. The exception is moves that have a lot of pushback like Flash's Lightning Kick.

Netcode in this game is ass so it's understandable.

Thanks for the props, I can help you out if you PM me or add me on PSN but I rarely play online and play online Flash even less. I am not an online warrior though so I have difficulty accounting for lag when I strategize etc. To start off with use the TYM Wiki for injustice frame data to give you an understanding of your character first. Important things to note are your start up times for now. If your startup is 10 and you block a move that is -12 that means typically you can punish it with the 10 frame move.

Now if you are online add about 2 frames on everything. Also online it makes it hard to hit confirm strings to combos, so you will typically want to end every string you do with LK mb to start with. You will either
1. Hit and continue combo
2. Get blocked and be safe. LK is -5 so do not try to poke after unless they are terrible and try to punish with a B3 or slow move.

My best possible advice is to find a scene that plays locally for you and practice live so that if you had an off chance to go to a tournament you would be ready to play offline and not be used to lag. Hell if you have 2 friends that want to be good too that is a large enough scene to get good. You want consistent games to practice and guage your improvement. Running trains on online randoms will improve your game, but at a slower rate in my opinion. Hope this helps and ask anything more specific for a shorter answer lol.

Everything helps at the moment really, just the fact that i can perform combos and im loosing to people that are obvously mashing their controllers is very frustratring, as i said above i dont have anything more specific then that to ask ecxept, do i have to know frame data on every move of every character to know if i can punish the move? for exemple, i just got owned by a deathstroke that just spammed those overhead guns all game but i have no idea how to punish that, anyway.. i will add you on PSN and if you have sometime you can show me some stuff.
Im impressed with the amount of help i already got in such a short time, this community is great.

Yes you want to know all of that frame data and how to read it for Flash first. Once you know your own stuff well you can pick apart any problems you have for the longevity of the game. For instance you Lightning charge is 11 frame start up, add a couple frames for travel time. Your example of deathstroke guns if you goto wiki deathstroke you see his guns are -20 or worse on block. This means as long as you are in range to hit with Lightning charge you can punish a blocked gunshot. Doing this in lag is harder but it at least gives you a basis on how to breakdown matchup problems. Offline you can be supremely confident that you can punish this etc.

On another note, the ranked system on IGAU is absurdely broken, im getting people with 2 -3k wins and i have about 60 online games. WTF?
That said my record is like 11w-49l, but i guess thats a subject for another thread, sorry.

wth i dont wanna make this thread my progress blog but im so frustrated, i actually have no idea what the learning curve for a fithing game is, i do have a lot with experience with competitive starcraft and PC FPSs but thats it.
I dont know if im getting crushed by people used to the genre or just random people who got the game for the lols

Beaten by both, the trolls are worse and the respect level of online fighting is nonexistent compared to rts.
