What's new

US-Store

Hello there,

I've bought Injustice over the german PS store, but because of the regionlock there's barely any traffic there and I can not play with my friends, now my question is, if I were to buy the game again but from the US store, would I be able to play with american players? Would I be sorted into a different region or would it be pointless?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Since the games typically are region free the PS3 USUALLY supports region switching. However, it typically is controlled by the region associated with the account instead of the region the game was purchased from.

It's against Sony's TOS but I would consider looking at making a US region PS-Network account and see if that lets you play the US region. If that doesn't work then the issue is actually most likely due to IGAU handling the match-making in the game code and you would probably be stuck playing your region.

I have a US account for such cases, and I downloaded the demo for Injustice from the US store, but it was on german. But as the demo does not have a the option to try multiplayer I still can't be sure if it would work or not. Is there a way too see what version it is or something?

I'd give it a shot, often times the account tells the game what region to connect to.
Alright I just booted the game on my US account and looked at the lobbies, and I see the usual room with only 20 people called "Apokolips" and also a room named "Australia", so I'm guessing I'm still in the european pool. I could still try making a match with a friend though if any of them comes online.

I did some reading. It sounds like NRS games use a server based region lock. :(

The game itself doesn't care about the region, but they basically do a geo-ip check and lock your region based on that. In short, they "ask" your internet where you are and use that to determine the region.

This is getting into some technical stuff, but are you familiar with proxies? If so you may be able to setup a proxy on your router that makes it look like your in the USA or wherever.

Well, I myself don't know how to do that kind of stuff, but I can follow instructions well :p

So if you can give me some, I'm sure I can do it

PS3 Proxy Setup Instructions: (I have not followed these but they look fairly straight forward)
https://www.my-private-network.co.uk/knowledge-base/other-systems/ps3-proxy.html

Simple Google search for free US proxies: (If you're willing to pay, I suggest finding a pay proxy, they tend to be much better)
https://www.google.com/#fp=13d6aa3a7d487f41&q=free US proxy

Any good list of proxies will give you a clear Port and IP address as well as the region for the proxy.

Bonus:
You can use your PS3 after the proxy to watch Hulu/Netflix stuff from the US region.

Couple warnings:
Proxies can and do introduce lag, basically your PS3 tells a US server to tell the Sony server what's up and vice versa - just adds some latency/lag because of that extra step.
Proxy servers are not always safe/secure - it's not an issue for general PS3 use, but be careful about using the PS3 web browser through a proxy you aren't paying for.
You will get better performance and support from a paid proxy, free proxies less so.
So would that mean that I can only have a US proxy on my PS3 if I use it for my router?

Nah, this is entirely contained within your PS3 so you don't have to touch your router. Your PS3 will look like it's in the US, and your computer, or whatever else, will look like it's in Germany.

I'm sorry if I keep asking about every single thing, but how do I check if my VPN is working?

Alright could you guys please stop arguing?

I am very thankful for all the tips, but I guess all this work and maybe buying a new copy of the game is not worth it and I'll probably refrain from buying anymore games with region lock.

FluttershyWithLove you will not be able to play if you buy a usa disc. All video games have region lock codes regarding their consoles, like NTSC-US for the usa, NTSC-JP for japan, and PAL for europe and austrailia. You would have to buy a console from the usa too that has the same NTSC code.

Not only that, but I am not sure if microsoft or sony also try to region lock by blocking certain ip addresses from plalying.

Yeah, I've pretty much accepted the fact that I won't be able to change anything. Guess I'll only be able to use IGAu for couch co-op then, unfortunately.

It'd help if both you and Barry talked to each other nicely, rather than one assuming the other is ignorant.
You should both be willing to enlight with knowledge, and not put the other down for supposed lack of proper knowledge.

It is not your fault.
I have deleted my previous posts as he did so mine make no sense now.

He was giving out wrong information and getting defensive and abusive when it was pointed out. I didn't insult him in my first post like he did and in my subsequent ones just pointed out he was getting offensive.

I'm not 'assuming' he is ignorant. What he is saying is provably wrong.

People can play others from different countries. If you are from Germany you can play people from the UK or Spain or whatever. That quote from Hector was famous for being taken wrongly and he had to come out and explain he didn't mean it. I'm sure you remember when that happened and he got blown up for it.

I have a PAL Ps3 and have a few NTSC games. They all work fine. You don't need an NTSC PS3 to play NTSC PS3 games, but you may need one to play online.

@Flutter

In case my original advice was lost, I'll repeat it.

I f you can't get anything to work, buy a copy from the States on Amazon, use your US account and that should work. If it doesn't and you're prepared to lose the shipping costs (which won't be much), you should be able to return the game.

Dang the wii does not let you play PAL games at all with an american wii. Had to mod it to play some games from japan.

Here you go.

Read this thread about that quote you posted from Hector and about region coding.

http://www.mortalkombatonline.com/content/forum/showmessage.cds?id=132345

Hector explained that all of that was pure misundestandings and mistranslations, and that he NEVER said those things. He also explained that the "region block" thing was a hude misunderstand, where he actually said that the "Match Making" online mode would just SEARCH for players close to you in order to prevent lag. That's all! He also said that we'll be able to play against ANY PLAYER in another continent without any restriction.
