I got 9th to kabal (curbo/jr). i'd beat either of them without kabal, but i'm not good enough to win 2-8 matchups yet (especially since i didnt have a scene at all). why the fuck is that character still legal?.
I'm just clarifying -- so that we're all clear here -- that you are saying you'd beat Curbo's Cage and Jr.'s Lao/Jax

Why didn't they just use Challonge? I still don't get why everyone doesn't use it. Makes it easy to find old brackets too...
A lot of TOs feel that paper brackets are easier for big tournaments, as you can break them up and spread them around, and it's easier to move/change things; but I've also seen plenty of debacles that happen with paper brackets.

Like the mess they make when they need to be edited? In a perfect world, it would be a combination of the two.

I am still waiting for that Ultimate Bracket Software -- it seems to be so hard to get it right, though. Challonge = cool, works well but not extremely flexible, and there are issues if internet access is interrupted. Tio = great, but it runs on a single computer, so considerations are different. Paper = easy to use, but easy to make mistakes.

Not sure how you'd setup the ideal bracket running situation; but there has to be a better way.

Perfect setup would be cloud based. Offline usable, but uploads to the cloud/online database for public viewing throughout the tournament. Mobile support would be fairly easy to integrate as well and would be an alternative to internet issues.

Paper would always be there for the venue. Having software run the brackets eliminates fuckups tho.

yall got beasts on yall squad (wafflez, dizzy, and bit all have one a major), so of course yall got them winners spots locked up. From the looks of it, there is a good chance a GGA member can come out on top.
Super serious da beech DJL Toro top 8 tournament

Network based, but run on a LAN instead of the internet. Server is in the room in case of harcore networking problems. Throw in some wireless routers and everyone would be able to see the brackets on their phones.
Still needs features to break up brackets and such; could be extended to run multiple brackets [games] and help avoid scheduling conflicts.

Factchecking in order:
1) They didn't run a bracket correctly, they didn't swap the pools when u lose , they did everything by hand just like that schedule that Insuperable posted

2)Everyone had to replay their loser bracket matches even people who thought they were eliminated and left and thought they had advanced to top 8 and left
1) 100% true. on top of that most people that were sent to losers were posted where people win one match and advance to, so a lot of people were just forgotten and a lot of people were simply never put on the loser's bracket at all.
2) 100% false. noone replayed matches. people that were eliminated were done, people that weren't finished the bracket out. shout outs to Big E for finishing the bracket in like 3 minutes when the other guy took 4 hours to fuck it up

The gist of it is this:
1)-Tournament started maybe an hour and half late
2) -Bracket confusion led to a number of delays between matches
3) -After Chris G was sent to losers, whoever was running the brackets forgot to put enter him into the losers bracket, so the rest of Losers of his pool was played out as if he wasn't there
4) -It took a while to figure out what had happened to the bracket, and what to do about it; and it was decided that a lot of the losers bracket of that pool would have to be replayed
5) -But there was confusion about which matches would have to be replayed, and so some people replayed matches that they did not need to play, and those results had to be thrown out
1) 100% false. it was scheduled to start at 1. it did. most of us just didnt know the schedule, lol
2) 10000000% false. delays (and about half of the problems) were entirely due to the guy running the bracket. he didnt call matches, he was off doing other stuff, after a while he only put matches on stream and only when the stream asked him what the holdup was. etc.
3) 100%true. i think he got top 8 without playing a match in losers, but i'm not sure. either that or he only played 1 (idk against who) even though we got put into losers at the same point in the tournament comparatively and i won 7 other matches... i'm a bit jealous.
4) 100% false. Big E sorted it out in about 10 minutes. he got everyone together, called names, saw who's left, and made due.
5) 100% false noone replayed anything. if you were out you were out. except for DR ela who lost 3 times in the tournament, i can only assume due to language barrier issues.

Damn intranet fighting game bracket keep it locked up to prevent rigging. Anyways I doubt anyone would build the pc program, ios & android app, for free. Easier would be to scan the hand written bracket and upload it online to appease both crowds but not fully satisfy them

The tricky part is
1) making it super simple to use -- because from experience with TO's, nothing will be adopted otherwise, and
2) Being able to resolve any desync issues/conflicts in a simple way, for when that 1% of cases occurs (and it always seems to occur)

I think the cloud-based setup is probably more realistic than having the TOs setup a LAN, but it does have the drawback of reducing you to a single system if the internet fails.

So as far #1, we were all told that it started at 12. It did not start at 1 in any case.
#2 - So it sounds like bracket running issues caused delays between matches. That sounds more true than false.
#4 - That confusion lasted for far longer than 10 minutes. We were hearing about it before the bracket was even finished the 1st time.
#5 - (At the very least) There was a smoke vs. smoke match played on stream that ended up being tossed since it wasn't supposed to be played. Then they replayed the rest of the losers bracket in that pool wit Chris back in it as he should have been.

I agree that it has to be simple to USE, but if it takes a little work to set up then I think the TO should just buck up and deal with it. And I'd go out on a limb and guess that any scene large enough to host a major would have someone in it that works on networks for a living and would be willing to help set things up just so things will run smoothly.

1) yeah it did. there was an opening ceremony where the prime minister and the people from the st maarten tourist board spoke and they sang the st maarten national anthem (which has like 5 verses, lol), and then most of the first matches were off stream because the bracket guy didnt know how to put matches on both regular monitors and on stream.
2)it was caused by the dude not writing people's names into loser's bracket, then when he did he would put it in the wrong place, and also he would break some people's names into 2 parts and put them on 2 parts of the loser's bracket. he was also just spacing out most of the time. this dude literally caused most of the problems on his own.
4) i'm saying how long it took E to sort it all out.

Wow man -- they should have just had Bit run the bracket, since the tourney was small enough to be manageable :)

With all due respect, GTFO. Curbo's Cage bodied Khaotik's Kitana a few months ago. You leveled up tremendously and it was obvious, but keep your feet on the ground. I'll tell you what, ask Jr to play you on stream with his Lao (a match-up in your favor), and ask Curbo to play you on stream with his Cage (you better take the no blood code against him).

Beats a bunch of outmatched casuals >>>> Claims he'd beat Curbo and Jr without Kabal. Jesus Christ.
