Before you read: Whatever is written below, applies to BOTH MK9 AND Injustice. This is a topic related to NRS games in general 
I know there are other threads that talk about this same topic, but I want to start seeing some initiative when it comes to making sure not only does MK9 not die, but to keep Injustice going strong as well. Now, I started competitive fighting games with the Smash Bros. community back in 2003-04. I witnessed my region (NorCal) go from a region with basically 1 top player to easily the most stacked region in the scene. Smash is a game that for most of its life has literally NO sponsership of any kind. There was zero monetary incentive for TOs to run something. That's the problem with us, we've been piggybacking way too hard on the Capcom majors...and honestly, as history has shown, it seems like only Capcom games survive in their circuits.
It makes sense though, it's their league.
WE have to make OUR own league.
I'm not saying we have to have our own EVO and stuff...I'm just saying that we need a reason to keep playing MK9. We need a reason to talk trash and hype each other up. We just need a reason to keep getting together. No EVO points, just props and cash. A great example of what I'm talking about is Atlanta's B&B. While it's definitely not a huge scale major it's exactly the type of initiative I'm talking about. We have to advertise our grassroots majors as if they were bigger than MLG or EVO qualifiers.
I've even started the process of attempting to host an NRS major here in NorCal. I'm talking EVERY NRS game to date. I have a good feeling about it. I feel like it's the kind of statement we need to give to let the rest of the world know how strong we can be on our own.
But all of what I said would be pretty useless if no one else is willing to go that extra mile.
This is what I'm asking:
If NorCal had a community ran NRS major, would GGA show up? Would NY show up? Would Atlanta show up? Would even SoCal showup? And this doesn't apply to just NorCal, it's anywhere! Does anyone give a shit? And if you do, how much of a shit do you really give?
EDIT: Frothy made me aware that I wasn't clear enough on how these would work in terms of financial incentive....here it is:
"Well, the way normal tournaments work that are not called MLG...there's a pot. If there's no pot bonus from WB or wherever, and for the most part most majors don't have pot bonuses...then it's just the pot. I remember GGA 16 Bit saying he didn't even make his money back at SCR 2011...and MK9 wasn't even announced for EVO at the time so I don't even know if he received EVO points. His incentive was to win and receive the props for winning. I mean, if you ONLY want to win so you can get some cash...then I really don't know what to say. But on that note, the fact that what I'm talking about is community driven, there would NOT be a ridiculous $30-$50 venue fee. Depending on the type of location we'd get, we can have a lot more control on how we run things. Maybe we find a cheap place that isn't exactly huge but it's big enough. Depending on how many people show up, we could charge like $10 for venue and $20 for pot which is literally DOUBLE the pot at a EVO circuit major. I'm definitely not saying that everyone come and just get bodied or body people for free"
