Do you players use W/L or True Skill Rating to judge skill?

EMPEROR PRYCE

WAR SEASON "THE WEAK EXPOSED!"
Personally, ive noticed that the true skill rating is quite good in this game. W/L seems quite inaccurate, I've face players with godlike w/l and they've been free. what I also noticed is that those players true skill was normally around 26 or 27. Id like to know, how do you guys judge how good a player is before facing them online? W/L or True Skill?

i dont but online yes my W/L is 500+ but i am by no means a a high level player i just played alot, yet i get declined 1 out of 5 matches lol

Actually it seems to be the reverse in my online experience. Not that this is a surprise, but having a ratio of like 5/1 W/L is unrealistic. These people are playing scrubs for easy wins, abusing strategies that the other player doesn't understand lol.

My record is like 12/8 and these people with awesome ratios won't play me -_-.

However I only play/accept challenges from people who have winning records. Fuck free wins, ain't nobody got time for that.

you can never tell until you fight them. some people love to "boost" their record, i.e. decline anybody with a decent record or challenge anybody with a shitty record. Which is why their record is not a true representation of how good they are.

Not at all, because I find most of the leaderboard either lags or pads their record. I wait till I actually play them. Usually solid players play together, hence the win loss isn't as padded

I check if they're from TYM or not, otherwise I just assume that they're a scrub.
Not necessarily, i've played some people from here and they were pretty bad. But yeah the majority is well above average.

And no. You can't judge players by their record. Look at one of the guys who's top 10 on xbl. Two dads hugging lmao that guys is like 7th or 8th and is probably one of the worst players i've played against.

Judging players solely on W/L record is a tenuous proposition at best. In my opinion, the biggest reason for this is that players improve drastically over time and an excessively poor record can be a direct result of a noob playing a bunch of games before he/she knew how to really play. Take me, for example. I didn't pick up injustice until late May, and as a relative fighting game noob (the only other fighting game I had ever taken seriously, in the least, was MK9), it took me a solid month of playing constantly (and putting in countless hours in the lab) before I could even be considered a "decent/solid" player. While I was leveling up and learning the basics, I was playing online and getting owned. I started something like 10-40 in my first 50 online matches. Since then, I am something along the lines of 150-70 (better than 2 to 1). So, my overall record is something like 167-117, but I'm probably a significantly better player than that record would seem to indicate. IMO, the much more reliable statistic to utilize when making a rash assessment of another online player's prowess is his/her "LEVEL", since that is a more direct reflection of overall match experience and committed time. And even then, you really never know how a player will perform until you play him/her.

neither but if i had to use one then def true skill. i know players with true skill 35 and barely are positive.. still good players could also have low true skill because they like to practice many characters but are still very good with their main

I am more likely to go by truskill...
I am not great by any means but I am a lot better then my 33% wins...lol
I main flash and my first few months were rough...and from him I tryed Lobo for awhile and then jumped around between a few characters...that and I play mostly with people who are better then me...they will beat me 2 or 3 times then when I win 1 or 2 they leave...but whatever I just move on to someone harder...and try to get better then them...

Sent under duress.

Neither. I only judge a player by playing them, but that is unreliable as well. What if it's a new character and they literally just got out of the lab? I guess what I'm actually getting at, is I don't judge anyone based on random experiences. I think that's foolish.

2 things can skew both those figures
w/l you can get high by mostly fighting noobs in player matches or even ranked if you get matched with garbage a lot.
trueskill can be higher than it should be by playing braindead easy mode characters which can beat most of the cast with little trouble.

The problem with trueskill is that the game is still early and good players could not be playing online much, so when they go online it's low. I don't know how it works in player matches, but someone could be practicing with top level players and have a mediocre trueskill or win/loss, and someone could be stat padding against randoms so they can look sUp3r pR0. I've been playing my bad matchups online vs people like Woundcowboy and Jailhouse and i have a negative record i think haha. But who cares

I've also run into some not-so-good players in ranked matches with incredible records. If you don't recognize their name just judge when you play someone.
