MB Shortcut Bias

Hi, first post here. Hopefully I'm not resurrecting a previously discussed topic—I've searched but found nothing. Does anyone else find it a bit ridiculous that MB shortcut (1+2+3) is frame specific while the designated button isn't?

I use a stick (TAITO) and prefer to minimize the buttons I use—it feels more natural to me and requires less wrist movement. But it's a bit discouraging to know that people who use a single button (vs. three buttons) get an input window advantage on meter burn.

I just realized that this thread should have been created under "Gameplay Topics"—my bad. I'm assuming that I don't have the power to move it there myself either. If a forum admin would be so kind to move it there for me it would be much appreciated.

shit pisses me off. NRS has a LONG way to go in terms of intelligent input systems. They constantly seem to have oddities and limitations that make for awkward gameplay.

Cant you just hold down 1+2+3 to get the MB?

I started using an MB button because its impossible to do aquamans water shield MB without a dedicated MB button.

No. Holding 1+2+3 works where all the frames are active for MB input; i.e.: Bane's venom upercut. Moves like Bane's body press require input during a specific window in the animation.

Mash it out.

I thought to try this but it seems (for me anyway) that learning the specific input windows yield a more consistent result. I suppose it wouldn't bother me as much had I not initially tried the MB button—considering that I'm used to just frame inputs in other fighting games. I'm just not sure why NRS would do this.

Mash it out.
This,

Depending on which character you're using, mashing it out might be your best option.

I play on pad (main Batman) but always double tap MB when executing any of his grapple combos to ensure it activates.

Give it a shot.

I'm trying to avoid the MB button altogether. When using the MB button, I usually have no reason to press it more than once—it works like 99% of the time. It's using 1+2+3 that's a problem. Even mashing it will occasionally drop combos.

Go to practice and set your meter to full, then continuously try Batman's straight grapple MB from point blank range using 1+2+3. It can be mashed out but it requires a shitload of button pounding to work consistently.

Another thing are Bounce Cancels using 1+2+3. These can't be dialed into combos the same way the MB button can. Instead, you MUST wait for the frames from the last normal in the string to begin before inputting 'forward, forward, 1+2+3.' It's almost like NRS wants to discourage players from using 1+2+3 altogether.

Yeah, id just give in and get used to the MB button. The controls were made with pad players in mind. Adding joystick control options seems like an afterthought. I still find using 2+3( or is it 1+2) to use interactables a bit inconsistant, especially in combos.
