Well I know how to start scene for relatively new-ish games. But older games like UMK3 I have no idea how to get people to show up for something that old.

For instance,,

Blazblue/MK9

All I did was firstly try to convince people I already know/friends that play other games with me competitively to give it a shot. Then I attend any local tournament even if it's a small crappy game-stop one. I get EVERYONE's phone number/name. I start having MK9 fests/blazblue fests. Then suddenly a scene is growing.

Finding them is the hard part. You might have to advertise and run a tournament yourself to attract people. Make sure you get I'd say atleast 8 people gauranteed to play before you run a local. IF you can't even find 1 person...

I'm not 100% sure how to find them w/o spending some advertising money like posters ect.

Because more than likely if you go to a store. A game store/walmart ect. you'll see there are missing copies of games you play over time. That means people in your town are buying them. you just gotta find them and persuade them to play locally.

Never been to a tournament. Stuck in NY
I'm having trouble finding tournaments in the New York area, the closest one for me is in Philly, and that's quite a drive. Any ideas on how I can find one? Too poor to start my own lol :(

Funny enough I was just talking to a dude who owns a computer repair shop about lending me space for MK9 and IGAU.
Kingston, NY (right around New Paltz, not too far from the city)

If anyone is in the area and interested in playing those games or any others, please PM me. This is all very tentative, but I would love to found a crew in my area.
