I saw the non EX one beat out Sektor's guided missile set up. The phase is nasty with or without burning meter.

I feel his pokes are horrendous. The d3 8f and 7f d1 is nice and all but the hitbox are terrible

I've used d3 and d1 a lot! I think those are pretty damn good pokes. I don't think d4 is all that great though.

As someone said before, b1 combos into smoke bomb as a meaty. It also combos in the corner as well.
b3 has a weird range 1.5 steps from max range (starting range at the start of a match) where it won't combo into smoke bomb on hit.

I've been using his smoke away after riskier but cancelable things, with the occasional smoke through into a baited punish it definitely does help with the larger window for teching throws. For opponents who want to punish with a throw so the input reversal doesn't catch them. But it all depends on how your opponent handles your pressure.

What is his best option for punishing a blocked string? I fought a Johnny online today and I could block just about all of his stuff, but I really didn't know what to do as far punishing goes.

Also, any tips on the f4d12 - run - S4 - Smoke Ball - NJP - Run - S4 - harpoon - ji23 string goes? I can do it in training mode pretty consistently, but have a lot of trouble doing it on an actual opponent for some reason.

1 1 1 xx Smoke bomb/Spear is a good punisher since 1 is 8F I believe. It doesn't deal out the best damage but it's consistent. F4 3 xx Ex Teleport into a follow up deals out the best damage and F4 is 10F. And for the combos, it's different when going up against an opponent because you don't have tension of an actual match that you can replicate in training mode. I would just give it time so the muscle memory can sit in. When I first started playing Erron Black it took me at least a week or two to get his combos consistently against real players.

I think I'm missing something? Vortex or not he's not a complete character. Sorcerer had a win button and blood god has totems. What does smoke get to warrant no armor move? His phase isn't that great.

I don't get it — these character have been out for less than a day.

There's definitely more to be discovered but he has no defense and he doesn't have an op offense to balance it. I would like armor on ex smoke away/towards. You can't delay wakeup with it because you have to fully stand up and it gets beaten. If it's his only get away from me move it should do it's job.

B21 might be the most godlike string ive ever seen.

14 frame start up. Insane reach. Safe. Strings onto them even on whiff so you get in for free especially with EX bomb if they arent ready to armor.

B21 -EX smoke away/toward could also be very useful vs people trying to armor the smoke bomb as it reverses inputs and seems to be safe vs armor if they get the move to come out on the correct side.
Can't B21 be armoured? and even worse, isn't it mid then high?
