General/Other - Mournful Why Mournful is Potentially Kitty's Best Variant.

i'm trying to incorporate her 50/50 in my game and i have a few questions:

1. how safe is her jip xx ex glaive on block?

2. is the 50/50 hard to react to and block?

the overhead ex glave comes out fairly slow at 25 frames and the low comes out in 15 frames. factoring landing time if you decide to go for a low, how hard is it for the opponent to react to overall?
You gotta delay the ex air glaive slightly. It's pretty hard to react to and both options are safe

It's hard to react too. And both are safe if blocked

Many people just do not know how to deal with a good mournful. She has such great zoning that it really throws people off so much they are just doing everything they can just to get in and when they manage to get in they blow their standard meta anyway because they're so off balance. Mournful makes your opponent play how she wants.

That's Kitana in general but Mournful excels in this. In mybook anyway.

What would you guys say is the optimal use (or uses) of float in this variation? I've tried using it in a few different contexts, with mixed results. When do you use float most?

Get staffed bro
I occasionally cross up float and either NJP or land and b3~ex glaive. Bit gimmicky tbh but catches a few people that are trained to block the NJP.

It becomes clearer everyday to me. Yes it is. Royal Storm covers the sky. Mournful is Queen of the Ground. Flip the scheme of the two. Think of lift as your AA Fan. If they jump, you lift. Think of ExGlaive as your rushdown fool button. After any f33, b3, 21, or 212, ex glaive can be summoned. After this you can immediately run into a f33 or 21 which will beat out damn near any armored reversal other then the fastest of slides, flipkick, and slides. If they land you can use another bar to land another 36%+

And if they have no meter your free to play a frame trap game behind glaive lockdown that surprisingly does give you a good amount of meter. In the corner she is a monstrosity. If your lucky enough to have baited your enemy into spending and wasting meter your in full control of the match. Jumping is out, against a good portion of the cast-full screen zoning is also in her favor, more so then in RS or Assassin due to constant chip....with every hit. No Ducking, No Jumping, Amazing PushBack on some of her SAFE strings that ALSO lead into armor baiting 21, or f33 for 28%+ no bar, and 35-40% one bar. Mind you these options also end with your opponent very close to/in the corner AND if you ended your combo with Staff Grab your left + TWENTYSEVEN that's enough time to force your opponent to wake up and face your mix up, which leads into another glaive setup or float setups, free safe chip or more armor baits, AA lift baits, Rising fan AA, 21-ExGlaive setups, Staff grabs for AA and corner carry, Safe on block shadow kick that corner carries and can get you out of the corner and AA.

Oh yeah a Overhead projectile that launches, that can be Instant Air FireBall for a quick run punish.......that launchs.

Mournful Kitana is a Safe meter building, Safe rushdown-semi good chip dmg, frame trapping character that can turn the tide in her favor at any moment. She boils down to meter management, and strong defense. One bar and a read and your good. Aside for the gods of the game she is our mid tier queen. Top 10 in my book.

I use the ex staff grab as anti air. it does pretty well chucking opponents out of the air.

the only issue i have with her is that her buttons are ass.

I use it for the same thing. Depending on the characters ill use regular staff grab too it works decently without the meter

what matchups do u feel favor mournful over royal storm?
Quan chi, Bone shaper, jax, dvorah, erra torr, johnny cage, Erron, kotal l, and, maybe cassie maybe raiden

Then there are some where it doesnt matter which you use.

But the MU i prefer RS are tempest, sonya, liu kang, predator, tremor

The rest are a mix

A general rule of thumb is that the more your opponent tries to stay firmly on the ground, the higher the probability that Mournful is a better choice than Royal Storm.

I can say with certainty that Royal Storm is the better choice for Sonya (any variation) and Mournful is the better choice for Full Auto Jacqui.
