Played Stryker vs Tom Brady at insert coin 2 nights ago so I got lots of match up specific questions answered.


[BUBBLE]Stryker has pokes that you can do into a gunshot cancel...
And then have advantage, and get maybe a throw in or what have you.
Stryker requires set ups.
Stryker has a few bugs like his XRay if wiffed or blocked or just straight up doesn't register there is a huge window where any character can get a full combo on him. He isn't a pick up and play character.

Full patch bugs: Strykers X-Ray being punished by wake up attacks is being removed in the patch after next. This is not working as intended.

I'll be at EVO so definitely hit me up there I am bringing a PS3 so we can play but I'm all about getting Stryker some screen time at any of these tournaments I noticed when I play on a big screen people really get into Stryker visually in a really strong way. Be it they think he seems cheap or that they think he seems cool so I love the hype Stryker causes so I think if you really want to level up get at the tourny scene I had many Kung Laos help me and that matchup for me is way better because of real Kung Laos sitting down with me and saying "hey don't be afraid to open a combo when I do this" etc

I hate to admit I learned something from the Expert computer in practice for Stryker mirror but heres the 2 I learned last night;

2, 3 (normally followed by 2) shortcuts into baton trip or roll toss perfectly because if they are blocking high the 3 opens them up into either the toss for a crossup or trip to keep pushing them into the corner. So I noticed 2,3,2 is poop but 2,3, into toss or baton is way better because it gains meter.

My Xbox is red ringed but on PSN hit me up Karefoot I live on the Westcoast in Canada so if we play I'll be sure to dedicate my net to just MK (turn off my skype/pidgin/random porn torrents).

I'm afraid the only major I might be making it to is going to be ETC. I'd love to go to Chicago, but it's concurrent with finals. I'm just going to say this though, you really really need a sub with Stryker. I love him, I love playing him, but he has abysmal matchups against a lot of common characters, and against a good player I don't think they're winnable, at least until the coming patch.

Both Ermac and Noob outzone him so terribly that they're one sided affairs. His lack of threatening punishment against them makes Kung Lao/Reptile pretty awful too, although more winnable than Noob/Ermac. Raiden is brutal as well. His teleport can allow him to react to you ever pulling your gun, and you're forced to react in a bad way, at least rolltoss lets you get out of some of his corner pressure. Sindel is also sort of an abysmal match based on my time against DanCock, but I don't think you'll see many of those. Basically though against Ermac/Noob/Kung against an opponent of similar skill I'd go with another character.

But honestly pick a sub who can help you win against zoning. I'm personally using Cyber Sub, since his divekick makes those into one sided affairs. But really anyone who isn't terrible against them is okay. Also just realize that with the current game balance Stryker is imo, pretty far down. I'm not saying you can't win, but considering that 5 of the top 8 at PDP were characters I don't think he can beat, well the meta-game is not on your side.

I blew up few Kung Laos at PDP casuals. Tom Brady beat me with Kung Lao and Noob @ insert coin pretty much. I actully took rounds off Toms noob and I do feel that its very possible to wreck a saibot. Learn to dash block you can double dash between clones. This is something I learned at PDP essentially you dash much quicker and its much safer because your ending the animation half way with a block to start another dash so not only are you moving way faster but its also much safer. Somewhat the same for Ermac but I don't feel any of those 3 pose as big of a threat as they do psychologically. Right now as far as I can tell maybe those matches are 6-4 but I think it time its really even Stryker has answers.

How to dash block or wave block in MK9, essentially your cancelling the slower end of the dash animation with a block and going directly into another dash.

I think with practice I could even wave block like 3 times between clones. Basically if you do get hit by one you'll want to ex-wake up baton trip because you'll go through the next clone and knock down saibot.

For Ermac Wave block is even more crucial because of how easy Ermac can punish roll. Up close Ermac and Saibot have way less options then Stryker.

Kung Lao needs to be zoned, force a teleport. Don't respect his hats from a distance low ground hats just hop over them and when you land pop him with a bang bang. At max screen Stryker can trade faster. Many Kung Laos are arrogant and want you to come to them, bullshit I say trade and win the round. Out lame them.

And while I say this I just hopped into practice mode to start playing with Kung Lao. Holy crap is this character easy to play.

Must refrain. Will continue to be Stryker...

yooooooooooooo somebody landed a B+1,2,2 ~dash 2,3,2 on me today. Man it looked sexy. it's only 23% damage tho. I never bother trying to link it after the launch. wow

so 8 hits - jump 1, B1,2,2~NJ1 ~dash 2,3,2 (30% damage)
7 hits B+1,2,2 NJ1 ~2,3,2 (26% damage)

You guys prob knew this already, but this is news to me lol

Looks boss and its easy to teach which is why I like this combo. It looks boss for sure. You can do this with jump in as a start then 2,3 into 2,3,2 you lose the jump in but I think the damage is different. Again easy to teach and executable online as you can pretty much dial it in and not have to worry about the trash online play.

I met Ed Boon at PDP I can't believe I didn't shit on him for netkode...

After a 25 King of Hill streak today, I'm dropping everyone and maining Stryker. Only question is on Kano. You guys trying out zone him? His knives are just too fast to compete with. The fight gets easier once you get the life lead, but with the new patch, he's got a better offense now.

Consistently. And when you cross up you wake up faster so you can shoot him on wakeup and have frame advantage for another shot if he doesn't duck.

Tom Brady thinks Stryker is definitely tourney viable. So I'm guessing he either knows something we don't and doesn't want to elaborate on it. But yeah apparently Stryker is much better than people think right now.

I think the gunshot cancel with stance change block will be a big part about punishing people - but no one has really perfected it yet. You'll see

Tom Brady said yesterday that he was waiting for a near complete version of the game before starting writing new guides for characters because he doesn't want to keep updating the threads every time a new patch comes out.

Now I'm assuming this means that Stryker will get a few tweaks in upcoming patches. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Yes I agree. Most of Stryker's game is likely based around the whole gun shot cancel trick mixed up with f jumps, 4, Roll Toss, 3 resets and quick uppercuts.

I don't see Stryker as a pure zoning character. IMO he's more of a Counter-zone character and mixup character. He's by far the hardest character to learn I've tried so far next to Baraka and Shang Tsung.

I've been trying the gun cancel into stance change to block faster. It's not all that hard to do, but I don't know if it's fast enough to punish a teleport... :\

I personally think Stryker's going to be all about getting into your opponents head and setting them up, at least at tournament level. Stuff like his grenades scream "Read your opponent".

This will immediatly cancel gun shot held into an instant jump forward. So if they teleport, chances are they'll meet your auto-correct jump attack.

Also, has anyone tried to cancel gun shot into D4 or baton trip vs teleporters?

Man I can't wait for when NRS adds the feature to record a dummy. That will help a lot.

I dont think Gun shot held, cancel into jump is wise against certain teleporters.. especially scorpion, you will most likely fall on the spear. well, i guess if the auto correct kick doesnt get them first. The main issue is that canceling the gun is too slow. maybe it's just me but by the time you are done with the dash, you are already getting hit :-(

Also have you guys notice that hitting 2 by the time the teleport is being done always hit the opponent first? This is mainly against cyrax, kung lao, raiden. the beauty of 2 is that it hits crouching opponents too. the only downside is that it's slow to come out :-(

How about different punish for certain moves and situations
1. Kung Lao spin
2. Reptile Elbow Dash

sorry but these two moves get on my last nerves, especially since they cant be punished online. I'm sure i can come up with more

Also ex-grenade is identical high and mid or am I missing something.

Been playing the zoning game vs Kung Laos recently I had one guy from test your might over to my house today to do some casuals his KL is sick. Anyway grenade trades vs low hatting Kung Laos is pretty wicked. Trading with zoners like Sindel (high grenade to shut down that akuma high fireball bs) is irritating as well.

Also Liu Kang low fireball bs needs to get hit in the face with grenades.

Back to the lab. Mad love I think this is the best Stryker forum on the web btw, been hunting around and I think this is 'the place to be'.

Well I showed that trick at the beginning of my second vid. I dunno why people didn't catch it.

But like Fairlysadpanda said, it still might not be fast enough and could get beat by fast teleports. Plus you can't cancel stance into an immediate block either so it kinda defeats its defensive purpose. Looks pretty cool though.

I was thinking it would interesting to cancel dash into a normal or special that modifies Stryker's hittable box.. like D4, Baton Trip or Roll Toss. Haven't tested anything yet.
