Although we didn't get to see any of Summer Jam's Mortal Kombat action in pools due to stream issues, we were able to join the tournament in time for the Top 4. With 24 entrants for MK, the tournament was small, but there were a number of good players at the top of the bracket.

The stream started on an unpredictable note in Losers Semifinals, with MikeMetroid eventually switching to Stryker to take out Kakurot's Cyrax after losing a round with Johnny Cage. After Mike's erratic and somewhat confusing, yet spirited Stryker beat Kakurot, Kakurot then switched to Kano for the final game. With both players playing as if they had nothing to lose, Mike ended up taking the set 3-1 and advanced to play Forever King. Mike tried out a trio of characters (Cage, Stryker and Jax), losing 3-0 with a fatality and a pair of babalities.

Losers Semi-Finals was between between Lulzlou, who has been playing better and better with his Kabal at every tournament, and Forever King. King was aggressive right off the bat, winnng the first round of Game 1 with almost a full life bar to spare. But Lulzlou came back in the second round, armoring through King's shenanigans and taking a commanding lead. King kept his composure though, and with the match coming down to the last bits of life, FK was able to clutch it out with a last-second EX divekick. The second game was even at the start, with King zoning his way out of the 1st Round. Lulz, fought back in Round 2, taking it with a significant lead. And in the 3rd Round, a group of timely hat spins gave King a significant lead and awarded him his second game of the set. Lulz battled back in the next match, making a number of good reads and eventually cruising through to win his first match of the set. But King fired back with a nearly perfect round in Game 4, and steamrolled through the final round on his way to taking the set 3-1.

Winners finals was between two players who have played each other on a regular basis, Sonic Fox and PTH Khaotik. Khaotik played well in the first round, winning with a convincing lead and carrying his momentum into Round 2. But Sonic Fox answered him, going up and looking to take Round 2 before being caught in an EX Fan Lift that reversed his fortunes lost him the game. Game 2 was very even at the start, and a gamble on a last minute roll put Sonic Fox up a round. Fox looked strong in Round 2, harassing Khaotik with Mileena's u4 and keeping him locked down with sais. But Khaotik stayed patient, and responded, eventually clutching it out. Khaotik again looked composed in the final round, punishing Sonic for his gambles and ended with a Fatality after winning the match with a convincing lead. In the third game, the two went blow-for-blow early, and a yolo EX roll gave Sonic the first round. Khaotik went deep at the beginning of the second round, tagging Sonic with one of Kitana's max damage punishes. But a random roll into X-ray gave Sonic the match, and he gleefully returned the favor with a fatality of his own. Although Sonic quickly won the 1st round of Game 4, the second was hotly contested, going down to slivers of life until Khaotik edged it out with a fan. And when Sonic came out on a mission in the final round, ending with a throw, Khaotik quickly paused and switched to Sonya Blade. Sonic barnstormed through the first round of the final match, wnning with a near-perfect. Khaotik battled back and took round 2, and in the final round, he caught Khaotik out of absolutely nowhere with a 'yolo' X-Ray to advance himself to Grand Finals.

In losers finals between Forever King and Khaotik, King brought out his Kenshi. The set started evenly, with Khaotik eventually narrowly eeking out the first round with an EX Cutter; but Khaotik was dominant in Round 2, finishing King with one of Kitana's trademark unbreakable fan combos. Game 2 was again close at the start, and a well-placed f21 gave Khaotik the first round at the very end. Khaotik never looked threatened in Round 2, and he pressured King incessantly to take the win. Having been soundly beaten for two games, King went back to his Lao. The first round of the 3rd game again went down to the wire, but this time King was able to scratch out a win in the final seconds with a divekick. Khaotik never looked threatened as he won Round 2, however, and had the set in his grasp after catching King on a lift; but he dropped the game-winning combo, allowing King to take the match and stay alive. FK picked up momentum, rolling through the first round of the next match and playing patiently to take his second round by a similarly large margin. With the set tied 2-2, Khaotik composed himself and took Round 1 of the final match with a huge lead. King answered back and confidently took Round 2; and with his momentum unbroken, he displayed some excellent counterpoking, never allowing Khaotik to breathe in the final round and landing himself in Grand Finals with a well-placed X-Ray of his own.

With Sonic and ForeverKing now meeting in Grand Finals, the action was fast and furious. Sonic came out at his usual breakneck pace, taking the first round quickly and finishing the first match altogether in the blink of an eye. But King fought back to take a large lead of his own and win the first round of the second game. With Sonic answering back to win a round of his own, he pressured King relentlessly in the final round of Game 2, closing it out and going up 2-0. In Game 3, King went up at first, but a timely Cartwheel on Sonic Fox's part stole the round away at the last second. Round 2 was incredibly close -- but a combo into X-Ray handed him the match, and the tournament win, 3-0.

Top 4:
1) Sonic Fox 88
2) Forever King 88 (Kung Lao/Sonya)
3) PTH Khaotik 88 (Kitana)
4) PTH Lulzlou (Kabal)

I am watching the replays right now. Awesome matches.

xKhaoTik !! You played so well and had this so many times only to choke in the end (that EX Lift read on King in the third game was epic... too bad you missed the unbreakable ;_; ) Tell me one thing though... why did you do the xrays in the last game against King?
