Mortal Kombat is heading in to 2013 event stronger than it did for 2012. To start things off for 2013, we have our first Evolution World Finals qualifier, SoCal Regionals taking place this weekend starting Friday January 18th. We are calling this Mortal Kombat's "War on the West Coast" as multiple players from all over the U.S. are confirmed to be there including our current reigning Mortal Kombat champion, REO as well as Tom Brady, GGA 16 Bit and the return of players, DetroitBalln and Konqrr! On top of this, and there to defend their tuef, the Terry brothers are expected to make it as well as NYChris G and Michaelangelo riding in with WoundCowboy; the list goes on!
TYM's Featured Player Preview -
REO - He's won the last three Mortal Kombat majors including MLG Raleigh and MLG Dallas followed up by NorthEast Championships XIII. While he mains the best character in the game, Kabal, REO's knowledge of the entire game and all characters is not something to look past. His knowledge with match-ups along with his determination to win makes him a favorite that many want dethroned.
GGA 16 Bit - Steve is a character specialist with expertise in fan-throwing, patience and is a 'real master' at getting in to the heads of his opponent. 16 Bit has become a strong player who trains with Chicago's best, GGA. He's beaten REO on occasion knocking him out of MLG's Spring Championship and is ready to take him out once again at SCR.
Tom Brady - He is a player with one of the longest histories in competitive Mortal Kombat, even before Mortal Kombat 9... Tom "Bill" Brady has seen it all. His fan-loved Sub-Zero may or may not be taking a backseat at SCR as Tom mentioned near the end of 2012 that he would be going to Raiden for his new main. Tom has not won a Mortal Kombat 9 major since 2011 and with making Top 8 at NECXIII with Sub-Zero... Tom's hunger for winning has returned.
DetroitBalln - Coming to claim the souls of those gathering at SoCal Regionals, Alex Rayis is using his last Kombat Network sponsorship to pave the way. Known especially for his signature Shang Tsung, DetroitBalln fights in a way all his own. From Shang, Kabal and Ermac, whatever character he uses, he always makes heads turn. DetroitBalln is returning to Mortal Kombat on Jan. 18th... is your soul ready?
DJT / MIT - Brothers who have both been dominating at different respective tournments, will likely also be in attendance at SoCal Regionals. With some help from CrimsonShadow, DJT, who has been placing consistently at multiple tournaments including 1st at NorCal Regionals and RevLAtions will be a hype bringer at SCR. Known for his Sub-Zero that lacks patience, he will have to defend the West Coast with his brother Malik. Malik, who officially got himself on the radar at Evolution 2o12 by making Top 8 in Mortal Kombat, players a variety of characters including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Stryker and more. There's no telling what these two are capable of come SCR.
NYChris G - Making the spotlight in other top games like Marvel, Chris G is making an official return to Mortal Kombat and giving it one last "good try". With recently picking up Kenshi and training with CD Jr and Maxter at the 'Dominican Dojo', fellow Mortal Kombat players better not downplay Chris. His mind is purely on winning and constantly strives to win and get better. He also has a scheduled money match with 16 Bit's Kitana at SCR this weekend starting Friday. "Chris, Chris, Chris G!"
Michaelangelo - Confirmed to be traveling with WoundCowboy... this man is sure to raise some attention. He's been absent from the competitive Mortal Kombat scene for some time with the exception of Console Combat. Michaelangelo returned to California a few months ago and will be at SCR. He was initially known for playing Ermac at the PDP National tournament in 2o11 and later became known for Kabal. His weekend will be very unpredictable and exciting!
MKU|STB Shujinkydink - He's the "original" Quan Chi player and you could say 'specialist'. Hailing from the Canadian scene, Shujinkydink is a reputable player who holds a victory against EG Justin Wong at the CanadaCup 2012 tournament where he defeated the fighting game legend's Raiden with his Quan Chi. He will be traveling a great distance for SCR... he will not let his 'QUAN-Children' down.
Pig of the Hut - The #1 Kenshi player in the U.S. is coming to SoCal Regionals. There is no one out there that means business quite like Pig of the Hut. Coming in from Atlanta, GA, Pig of the Hut, who placed in the Top 8 at Evolution 2012, is yet another contender to keep the radar on.
