General/Other - Pyromancer Pyro looking red hot right now.

I have been checking out Pyro Tanya all this week and I was hoping for some small Pyro buffs this latest patch. We got that and a little more I think.

  • First thing is the stamina change is huge. Mobility is lost on every character. This hurts the rush down characters pressuring us when they get in, as well as buffing our zoning.
  • Characters running in through our zoning getting hit now have to eat practically all of our combo before they can break
  • Improved recovery on teleport means our mobility got buffed while every other character's movement is worse. We own spacing now.
  • Fireball damage buffs further increase our trading potential and overall zoning.
  • Nerfs to all launching armor especially the safe armor is actually another big buff for Pyro. Because she didn't have safe launching armor anyways.
  • SAFE ARMOR. This is huge. Armor got hit across the board and safe armor is now a luxury and not the standard. Pyro is one of the few variations that gets safe armor. Not to mention our non-launching armor will do 16.5% damage on hit if you decide to cash out the dust for the 6.5% chip. That has to be towards the highest damage for non-launching armor with 2 hits.
What do you guys think? Overall I think our mobility increase while others are getting slower and our improved armor game are the 2 biggest changes. Pyro should be a very good zoner, and even be good up close now. We can play anywhere on the screen.

She lost the ability to cancel recovery frames from teleport into moves tho lul and there are characters who lost launching armor but gained safe armor. Like I'm willing to bet that is the standard tbh. she lost her only launching armor too.

Yeah, I feel Pyro is in a really good position right now. I'm loving the extra hit of armor on shroud. No longer getting armor broken by a mileena or Kung lao... Hopefully.

Just wish she had the cancel advantage of 34 back. 34 db4 was go to combo ender.

Mileena's B1 ex roll tech still works on Tanya. I'm sorry Pyro is still unable to wake up vs Mileena lol

She's spending meter to counter so that's fine. I'm talking about normals... like mileena's f1
Piercing still has infinite meter, basically.
Don't overuse wake up dust too much though. Keep in mind that all of Tanya's wake ups (including other ones in other variations) can be dodged by jumping

Piercing does not have infinite meter, and I know.. that's why I wakeup with EX teleport sometimes.

Honestly the way pyro plays with this buffs as @GGA Jeremiah said its going to be Huge, her best armor move not only is safe now is 2 hits.

Just received word that the instant air pogo now damage scales like 3% and 6% Depending on the combo, so my standard 56% will probably do 50 now

Vak what do you think on best variation agains GM Sub now? I see issues here - all Tanya vars except Pyro has 1 hit armor. That means she still is vulnerable to GM corner shit on the head. However even Pyro can't punish GM's corner OH behind the klone - she doesnt have suitable reversal for that now.

Naginata was always good against Sub Zero, there is no reason to pick Pyromancer, because that match is very similar to Grand Master vs Kitana.

Naginatas mobility and long reach annoy Sub Zero, and she challanges him by poking through the clone and running away.

However the match is not strongly in her favor, but its somewhat in her favor. Remember if you cannot keep up with Tanya, she will overwhelm you.

My issue is that after any sub string into klone he jumps in (rare case) or backdashes (often) and I can't check him with my b2 through the klone because i need to step back a bit. But he starts spammin iceballs and builds meter. And if he does corner carry combo than its almost gg because I need to guess 2 mixups in a row.
