This past Saturday, Virginia's best ascended into Arlington, Virginia for the second installment of the Battle at the Capitol series. For those who don't know, VA is very large and this was even a 4 hour drive for me and I friggin' live here. This was barely advertised and we weren't sure IGAU was even going to be streamed but my man @Shintristan came through and we streamed almost half the tournament. The bad part is that we lost Injustice and Marvel on twitch so sadly we will not be able to watch it back. So I am going to go through the entire tournament as best I can so that you guys didn't miss a thing!
Virginia, a seemingly glorious commonwealth.
In the fgc history pages some call it Pallet Town Landing. Where the birth of PTH began. Since then in the NRS comomunity this group of vagabond character specialists have controlled the ares. Old leafers, on blasters, meta destroyers, and occasional bro huggers. We arrived with our absolute best this Saturday June 31st at the Hard Times Cafe for what proceeded to turn into a nice regional. First walking through the door you could sense something in the atmosphere folks, a palpable hue of anticipation. Off in the corner you saw absolute killers among us. A gigantic squid hat ready for davy jones command to release the kraken. An astronout that might have been the astronout cyril shoots in Archer. A skiiny speedster in Witness. and countless other killers. Seeds formed, brackets were rigged, and what unfolded was something not even Nostradamus could predict.
Early round matches begun and the seeds made it through pretty convincingly. There was 1 epic right from the start when Deathstroke player and sometimes sword flip enthusiast Srryimwhte faced off against of our real up and comers Krucifix. Also known and the dark knight of northern Virginia. Also not known as that........ A true battle that came down to the wire at 3-2 as Krucifix prooves he came to play knocking out a former Top of the Food Chain champion. Round 2 in winners begins and the top 4 seeds all take 3-0 victories to move on to winners top 8. Everything looked gravy up until this point. In losers we saw srryimwhte begin to run the gauntlet taking out fellow southern virginian Dark Steel, and Adeel. And Krucifix taking out fellow CFAS players and taking out our former IGAU player Fuerte. Next up we went to stream. First on deck in losers was Srryimwhte vs Virginia Lantern #4 Alitthical (Lith). Srryimwhte with MU knowledge from the previous 3 lanterns on the list was able to take a convincing 2-0 lead. Liith then channeled his inner Orochi status and Lifed the ever loving christ out of srryimwhte for 2 straight games. Unfortunately for this lantern he then proceeded to get shot in the face and falls out of the tournament.
On to winners top 8, On one side of the bracket we had our number 1 seed Astronout against our number 4 seed Witness, these 2 were ver familiar with eachother but WITNESS guessed wrong in every vortex and was sent to losers 3-0. Then proclaiming it was the flashes fault and that buffs would help him overcome these MU's. On the other side of the bracket we had 2 true character specialists of the world go at it. Oxygen and Mr Aquaman. This would be a runback from TOTFC 7 where Oxygen skull raped Mr Aquamans ares into the ground with a 3-0 BODYING. This was a slugfest. Mr Aquaman came out with the first swing playing the lamest ares ever seen because he was utterly terrified of Lobo up close. Some might call him a scrub. And some might be right. Oxygen the proceeds to toss his squid hat onto the ground in dissapointment and lights up with the eyes of a killer. His face turned from Kraken Release to serial zombie murderer.
Some great reads with low hook shot and meter managment saw Oxygen level it up at 1-1. We decided to to the same damn things and we found ourselves at the epic apex of 2-2. I decided to change stage and got ferris. My first thought "FUCK FERRIS" then the match started. The first bar of health went by quick for both players and Mr Aquaman was able to take the first bar of health with a magic pixel left. He then proceeded to play as lame as humanly possible camping underneath the turbine and throwing every projectile in existence and popping him with turbine when he tried to get in. Scrumbag Mr Aquaman moves on to play Astronout in winners finals.
In losers Oxygen would play almost right away against Srryimwhte, this was the surprise of the tournament. Lack of DS experience really showed here as well as taking a close loss to Mr Aquaman saw Oxygen get 3-0'd by the last remaining hitman of the tournament. With the contract fufulled the rest of us proceeded to pay srryimwhte. On the other side there was a meeting of Norhern Virignians in WITNESS and Krucifix and WITNESS prevailed 3-1. Srryimwhte and WITNESS then comepted to see who would move on to play Astronout in winners finals. The brutal ass beating that then occured on stream was like watching what happened to 3/4 of the Xmen in days of future past, straight up BODIED. Losers finals begins with signs of a ruback in the air. Astronout is infamous for beating someone with a chracter, then in the runback completely changing it up. Instead of usinng Killer frost he decides that even though he beat WITNESS 3-1 in winners not might be a good time to try catwoman. He then proceeds to get BOPPED. WITNESS being up 1-0 it might be a good time to go back to you winning character. Well mind fucked as we all were he goes to a third character in Batgirl. WITNESS relives memories of winners and blocks every vortex wrong and gets d1'd a billion times. Astronout runs it 3-0 from that point to take it 3-1 and advances to grand finals. Remember Kids.....
So here we are, two peas in a pod, two great warriors on a path that only leads to the others destruction. Two friends, two allies, two rivals...... The stage was set.
The ares of the world Mr Aquaman vs The sometimes one of the 3 female characters of the world Astronout
Only previous meeting came at TOTFC where Astronout gave Mr Aquaman the worse loss of his entire Injustice career. Mr Aquaman I believe landed 1 normal in that meeting. This was it, Mr Aquaman exacted revenge in winners against Astonouts prooven Killer Frost, but in grand finals decides to choose Batgirl. The character he used at totfc to dismantle this god of war. With all of the world watching, all 4 viewers. Grand Finals begun.
As prooven before Astronout comes out swinging with his Batgirl winning close game after close game. The air was so tense that joker might have been able to land a hit through it. Astronout found himself up 1-0, 2-0, Mr Aquaman was sweating, Bracket resets with a 3-0 demolishing of poor Ares. I can tell you what was going on in Mr Aquamans head. "Damn I just got fucking bodied, maybe I need to b1 more, and stop getting hit with shit." After the reset the game began, sure on his word mr aquaman played the smart stuff and took game one. Game two came around and all of a sudden momentum had completely shifted. Mr Aquaman takes game 2 to go up 2-0 after the reset. Playing out of his mind astronout takes a breather and changed stages. The tactic was put to full use as we witnessed astrnout run the set back to 2-2 with Mr Aquaman frightened for his life. Both players down to 1 game to win the tournament. The match began and immediate body blows insued. They traded combos and kept the healthbars even, they were perfectly matched, no better grand final could have been asked for. One final read was all that seperated the two. The read came on Mr Aquamans part as he closes it out in stylish fashion not dropping his combos.
This will mark the first real tournament Mr Aquaman has won with all ares, Aquaman helped him out with previous victories in regionals. This was a great tournament, for a last min decision to try to get guys here it was a great turnout, this was stacked for how small it was, these guys are some of the best and have prooven it, I dont have to tell you that, but I just did.

I made one read on astronout that he is still texting and messaging me about. With KF he jumped in and would follow with d1 slide, well he had the game pretty much won to make it 2-2 in winners finals. Well in that game he jumped in only needing a hit to win. I was blocking the low so I decided to read a f3 attempt and sure enough the scout was true and I neutral jumped and landed into the killing combo that would send me to grand finals. And i told him it was a read, and it was, but theres a smaller truth to this, and the myth of Mr Aquaman in general. To answer him and for all of you wondering.
