Can't only a few characters punish meterburned dash?
Don't know if it's universal but Kenshi couldnt punish it for a full combo standing up but if he crouched blocked it Sektor would end up on the other side of him and be closer to Kenshi. Allowing him to punish.

And when I played Sektor before I stopped playing the game; I would get hit out of ex dash by d2 sometimes.
Don't know if thats just me delaying the ex dash or not.

I'm just sitting here waiting for the day Cyrax arises from the dead makes your lives a living hell.

It will come. Soon ;)

Lolz holy shit. I would have never known that reading the Smoke forum and that's my boy. I'm so out of touch. Brb with my top tier all of a sudden after the game has died main.

how is Quan's amazing core tools plus great counter zoning tools a bottom 5 character? Niche isn't the same as trash my man.
quan doesnt have amazing core tools. unsafe 50/50s(he actually has the most unsafe 50/50s), he cant really stagger, no plus frames on block. hes a counter zoner, which is weird because his up close tools suck too much to make it worth it

Wigy

There it is...
YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE WIGY. If F1 got a better hitbox he'd be easy contender for top 10 at least.
i think he'd be super solid but not a top 10 contender

If his d1 was plus 12 on hit also, then we'd be talking.

He reaaaaaally struggles in some matchups not just down to the crappy f1

He has D3 which is one of the better pokes in the game, he has good zoning tools, great ways to control space with B1/B2, he has delaying runes on block to make them plus (yes there's a gap but honestly how often have you seen people actually abuse it?) and make his 50/50's safe (he also has EX Skull for this in the corner) Instant NJP is godlike.

You have an overhead and low starter that are both under 20 frame startup so it's more guessing than reaction to blocking it. So... that's a plus lol. I don't play against Quan much so I wanna hear a little more info on those unsafe 50/50's. I know b32 and b324(?) Is like -14 or something but I wanna know the others.
Omg

I also don't think it's fair to count Triborgs variations as separate characters and not the rest!
Yeah yeah they're move set and play style is a lot different but so is Kitanas Mournful and Takedas Ronin but they ain't counted as separate characters.
I agree, but it's so much harder to make variation lists.

That stupid God damn tracking shot has better tracking than anything else in the game.

Got a move that has shitty tracking? It's because all of the good tracking was put into that stupid shot. Everything else was told to piss off.
Nah, sektor ex missile and cassie ex missile have best tracking by far.

Agree. Actually, I think tier lists that don't separate variations are pretty much useless, or at least hide a lot of information.

Many variations in the game, of a same character, have completely different tools and gameplans and shouldn't be put together.
We could make an argument for tier lists being done by for characters as a whole and not by variation ONLY if MKX allowed the winner to switch variation. That way one character that has versatile variations could counter all bad match ups.
BUT since you can change your variation only when you lose why even take into consideration the character as a whole (with all 3 variations combined) if you can choose a completely different character to counter an unfavorable match up.
So what I am trying to say is this: switching a variation is essentially the same as switching a character in tournament settings. Nothing rewards a player maining 3 variations of one character over a player maining 3 completely different characters' variations. That means all the tier lists have to be done by variations (treated as separate characters of course) for MKX.

Hoping for a in-game variation switch (for a bar or two) for the next MK game, maybe replace the stand switch button. :D

Gilbagz

Joker here~
Ok I could try and explain the option select but I know I'd to a shitty job and make it too convoluted. The "why Cryomancer sub zero isn't top 5" thread explains the option select and I'm sure @Gilbagz or @Lokheit could explain it better than I could.

But anyhow tiers are based on matchups not tools and I don't see Cryo having that great of matchups. At least not good enough matchups to signify a top tier character. Imo Grandmaster loses to 10-12 (2 of them might be even) characters, Cryo has to be worse than that.
the option select is doable with practice. but you have to be playing the match up a lot. Even then the cmd grab is a fucked up mix tool to add along to his 5050 game, even if his 5050 game is punishable for the most part. His 5050s arent even strong till you hit the corner, where b2 actually combos for significant damage. midscreen you can't break 25% and thats if you're at that mid range, from further its safer but you only get slide as a follow up, which totals like 16%. If you want damage with consistent follow up midscreen, you need to do it off a jump in, where it jails standing, but then you actually risk a decent punish. it being punishable isnt that bad, but it just leads to an inconsistent style of play. cryomancer just plays a lot more like gm now where his mix ups become a lot scarier in the corner. if you play him frame trap throw style using the buffed f1, its a lot more consistent, and you can play him more mid screen focused, but other characters do it better for less risk and more damage. His mix up tool set is just a really good come back mechanic.

He's a solid character overall, nothing really stands out right now:
- good mobility
- below average zoning
- below average chip
- good frame trap throw game
- good defensive system between pokes, backdash, armour and anti air ability
- average damage
- average to below average footsie game
- Great mix ups albiet punishable
- Not meter dependent for damage anymore, so saves bar for boosting cmd grab potential, defence and x-ray

GM is much better overall, controls the neutral much better and has ridiculous explosive potential in the corner. armour nerf buffs clone cancels significantly, and safe burst helps him a lot too for when is clone game. He can play the same game cryo does but with less damage, and when he reaches the corner now he can actually drain your entire health bar off two good reads. If you don't have bar, the risk reward for the corner game is heavily heavily out of your favour. i've developed some options to help defend without bar with out having resort to random neutral jumps, but the risk reward is still skewed far in his favour. I honestly dont see his bad match ups right now. Dvorah is arguable his worst, with HQT maybe close behind, but they both get fucked in the corner. I've seen @Wazminator play Australis's best GM so much, and even he struggled pre patch. Post patch all thats changed is the removal of armoured ex burst, but gm can still slow push to the corner where he can run his game. match is harder than most of his match ups, but i honestly cant see how its worse than a 5-5.

Paging @Wazminator for thoughts.

Tl;dr: cryo is decent but definitely not top 10. He would have succeeded much more in his previous iteration for the current version. He's too momentum based now with higher risk for less reward. He was much more consistent to win with before.

Sub Zero is not a top 10 Character. Too many losing matchups and ton of negative strings only make him an overhyped character. There, I said it. Until proven otherwise A.K.A in tournies, He's not a top 10 contender anymore.

Positive Poster!
Decided to do a tier list for this version of MKX. Enjoy.

*Top 5 is in Order*

1. Shinnok (Imposter)

2. Triborg (Smoke)

3. Jason (Relentless/ Unstoppable)

4. Jacqui Briggs (Full Auto)

5. Raiden (Displacer)

*Not in Order*

6. Ermac

7. Tanya

8. Scorpion

9. Mileena

10. Sub Zero
Why is Shinnok better than Jason or Smoke? And why is Mileena in the A-tier?

Mileena - Smoke - Jason are top 3 in no particular order for me. These three still have a bit of dirt that needs looking at in the upcoming patches in my opinion.
Then I think Raiden and Shinnok at balanced but godly tier, with Ermac and Grandmaster as a close follow.
I wouldn't put Tanya in top 10, maybe within the 15.

I also think that Cassie and D'Vorah have a spot in top 10 still.
