"GOTCHA!"
1 of only 2 matches in MK2 where Jax doesn't have an advantage- Jax vs Jax is always a funfest of ground pounds and seeing who can control the air. Here are some suggestions for winning Jax mirrors:
DOs:
- This match usually comes down to 2 things- ground pounds and air control. Time your ground pounds well, especially under any wave punches. Mastering the multiple ground pound in this match will give you a definitive advantage.
- As far as air control, anti-air with Jax's sick high kick any time your opponent jumps at you. With the constant threat you pose to each other from ground pounds, there is often a fair amount of jumping happening in this mirror.
- Always be hitting block in the air as this will trigger the backbreaker, and it has a very nice priority over other moves in the air.
- With both players always charging low kick for ground pounds, Jax's sweep kick often is a surprisingly effective move. It might be the worst in the game, but it's great in this match.
DON'Ts:
- Don't get gotcha grab happy. The move does nice damage, but your opponent can get a free hop kick in afterwards.
- Jumping all the time will give you a good introduction to Jax's boot when he aaHK's you. Jump conservatively.
- MGPs are great and all, but if you get predictable with them, your opponent will expect them and just start jump kicking you when you do the first ground pound.
- Jax wins by turtling right? Well don't forego applying some up close pressure with Jax. Crossover kicks while tapping block will catch Jax in a backbreaker if he tries to jump away. His multi-slam does huge damage, and his hammer fist sets up massive combos. These things are all only possible if you're fighting up close.
