Equivalents in other games of the genre

This idea sprung up initially because (a) Im looking to maybe get at least somewhat seriously into a couple other games of the genre and (b) I wanted to see what chars would be the best to transition to from my main Kitana, alt Ermac, and backup skarlet.

Then I realized I could just make an identical thread for all the character forums so that ppl could chime in on which chars are similar to play as in other games (or are "parallels")compared to a certain char and what not.

So this is for the sake of advice to those transitioning from the char to another game, and for the sake of just sparking some hopefully interesting discussion on character likenesses across different titles.

Just to clarify, an example might be: Sheeva is to MK what Tager is BBCS2, or ZZangief in SF...etc and then of course expand on why you think so.

Obviously whatever character forum this thread is in will be the character being likened/compared to others from other games.

I originally felt Sonya was similar to Cammy from SF. Her stance creates interesting possibilities, but she's the first character in any game where I've tried learning how to use her stance. Usually I'm lazy and abandon characters with multiple stances because I don't want to learn them. Military Stance is a way to make unsafe moves or pokes safe on block. Some KOF characters have stance-specific mechanics, and really because of the way Sonya's attacks "move" her (like arc kick cross distance in the air), one could draw similarities to KOF's jump, super-jump, and short-hop movement.

I was def thinking Cammy too, they even share a simliar special in the scissors special. Hard to pick up and master, similar sorta rushdown with limited but enough zoning. Smaller hitboxes but very quick and dangerous with the pokes and frame traps. Dont know much about the KOF similarities but thats why i made these threads.

There is the obvious physical resemblance to Sarah Bryant in the Virtua Fighter series, but especially with MS, there are many stylistic similarities as well.

Sarah Bryant huh? I was thinking more towards Vanessa, but then again I haven't played VF4 in a few years. I will say that Sonya's MK9 moveset is a direct nod towards Virtua Fighter though, there was no doubt in my mind, almost immediately after using her the first time, that was the case. Damn I miss VF...

Yeah, she gots the Bryant look for sure. Sarah's dfdf K(not sure of the notation) looks exactly like Sonya's MS3. Although I can see the cammy resemblance as well.
