UMK3+
Just updating/completing the game. This is my first go-round at arcade game hacking, and everything I've read told me that the TMS34010 processor was not the first CPU to start with. But it's my favorite game, so I dove in.
This is based on revision 1.2, not juggernaut's hack or tournament edition. I started working on this a little before the MK2+ team started working on UMK3+, but they're a lot better at this stuff than me! Anyway, onto the good stuff.
At the "Midway Presents" screen, I changed the bell toll to one of Shao Kahn's infamous taunts. Again at the character select screen, when the other player enters, there's a taunt instead of the character select noise.
You'll also notice an updated character select screen. Nothing special, it was just me playing around inside the ROM and doing a draft of a revised select screen. Subject to change.
All of the hidden characters are no longer stage locked. If a certain MAME cheat was applied, Mileena, Classic Sub, and Ermac would be stage locked to the blue portal. Human Smoke is by default stage locked in arcade mode to the blue portal, and noob (playable by cheat only in 1.2, he will become selectable in this game and already is selectable in juggernaut) is locked in to Noob's Dorfen. ALSO, you no longer fight Motaro on the balcony, nor Shao Kahn on the Pit 3. To give it just a little MK9-ish feel, Motaro is fought on the bridge and Kahn is fought on the Rooftop.
Also, the blood stays on the floors MUCH longer than previously. You'll see that demonstrated throughout the video. There isn't any MORE blood spilled in the game, but it staying visible longer gives that illusion.
and finally my favorite update - the Wins count for both sides doesn't reset during 2 player kombat. This was something in MKT on the PSX that players loved, because it made it possible to keep track of wins easier. In this update, the only time the wins count will reset is on Game Over, when you go from the arcade ladder to 2 player mode, and if you reset the machine. 2v2 kombat works the same way.
I have a bit more planned, like working out a good stage order, and adding in some custom programming beyond just changing things here and there - NOTHING to effect game play!! Just to help update and complete the game. But this was a good start.
