Top-tier at everything but the characters I choose
Is it bad that I hope for a character with a variation SO high risk/high reward that NRS names said variation YOLO?

Like a hipster groupie of Cage, a major wannabe or even...
Cage himself.
Variations could be: Haters Gonna Hate (comic reference), YOLO and something Ninja Mime related.

(Edit) To answer the question [duh], I'm gonna say the entire name early on if I'm commentating, and then shortcuts of said variation, if there's a clean/cool/easy to understand way to say things with less syllables. It's the way hood people talk - Less syllables as possible. No numbers/letters, casuals will be confused or wont remember right away. I feel MKX will continue to bring in new players for the long run, so new 'casuals' will always be watching/gauging interest n the different variations.. Examples:

Cryomancer Sub-Zero, will eventually become Cryo Sub
Ninjitsu Scorpion will eventually become Jitsu Scorps
Master of Souls Ermac will become Soul Masta Mac

it literally takes seconds to type out an entire variation name. I don't see why this needs to be shortened in any way whatsoever.

Abbreviation. If I end up main'ing Ermac there's no way I'm typing out "Master of Souls Ermac" every time I reference him. I'd most likely say "Souls Ermac" or something like that.

If it's two characters that I don't main or never play I'd have no idea what people were talking about if they said, "Kotal A vs Ferra/Torr B is a good MU".

Variation name is enough IMO, but I can see people using it alongside with names and eventually going for abbreviations.
A/B/C and the like may be problematic to determine what exactly people are referring to if you don't play that character - requires you to gather additional info you won't really need.

GT MK OshTekk.
ABC sounds goood. Using numbers will be kinda confusing when talking about MUs or combos.

Also for combos if a combo requires running will we use the letter R for it? Like run cancel xxspecial move or normal would be like b332, RCxx db2?

too smart to play MKX
I'd opt for the A-B-C system but I'd never fucking remember what someone meant by "Kano B" or "Cassie C."

People will probably just end up writing the whole damn thing "Displacer Raiden", "Mystic Ermac" or whatever. Then some will get nicknames and shit. In the character specific forums, people will probably just identify by the variation alone. Commentary won't mean shit because it'll always be visible in the corner.

I'm thinking 1,2,3 or A,B,C will be easier than some of you think once you start playing. You'll familiarize with the variations left-to-right easier than by their proper names it seems.

Almost how you identify normals as 1,2,3,4 instead of by their proper titles.

Thats why they call this thing bloodsport, kid.
Cutesy names will become the norm. Soulmac, mystmac etc. Those less catchy will just be shortened like inf scorp or something.
variation alone makes the most sense, unless there's overlap, which it seems there isn't.
This actually makes sense but hard to say if it will be adopted. Its a little impersonal.

It sounds lazy but its just emotionally cumbersome to type out long words on the internet, especially in gaming.

Considering "Injustice: Gods Among Us" turned into "Inj" across the board...

Inf Scorp
Hell Scorp
Nin Scorp
GM Sub
Cryo Sub
UnB Sub
MOS Mac
Mys Mac
Spec Mac

Then again, my original idea of prefixes may solve everything when making threads:

Variation name alone shouid be enough for forum talk/typing purpose unless we get doubles but i dont think NRS will do that.

I predict the community will use full character and variation names at the beginning and then we'll move towards variation only or nicknames for character variations as the community becomes more familiar with the names.

Using a number or letter designation sounds really confusing because you're going to have the game open unless you've already memorized which variation is in which slot for each character. I'm sure some people will try but will give up when no one understands them.
