Angry Joe interviews Major Nelson

Of course, but a dev kit isn't going to tell you how difficult pushing the system will be. Everything I've seen so far for both systems has been fairly basic, so we don't know how difficult it will be to squeeze power out of system A or system B.

Give developers a couple years, allow the flaws to surface, and then we'll know how easy they are to develop for.

That's completely asinine.

oh? and what logic am i lacking? maybe i am lacking perspective, but you have failed to explain how i am. you didnt even answer the question of why you keep hounding on it? boredom? stupidity? indignation?

must be fun living in a world devoid of any type of vision for the future and how the world will work

How the world will work? Microsoft are offering me shit, DRM, always online and for what? What benefit do I get? I might not have liked the price of the swap to blu-ray, but I could have been told that it offered better quality. What does microsoft offer?

You say there are benefits to all this crap well go. List away.

The huge issue for me is why the fuck does this thing have to be online and why does this Kinect need to be connected at all times? So it can have the ability to watch me fap and listen to the porno I'm watching at the same time?

Like what happens with internet inconsistency when say the internet goes out or when something goes haywire with the network connectivity? There is a lot of issues with the internet connectivity in the general home... shit take a look at any wireless ps3!

What exactly does the 24 hour check fucking do? Why can't they explain it, cause seriously if it is just a check it can be turned off!
You know the Wii and Wii U are connected 24/7 but they explained that it is to receive updates from Nintendo and guess what, you can turn it off...

Well, tough titty, young man, that's just the way things are. Sorry that game development doesn't conform to your SONY RULEZ ; M$ DROOLZ echolalia. Game engineering is slightly more complicated than looking at a devkit, reading a manual, and then knowing how to make the sweetest Sony-brand vidya gamez of all time!!!!!!!

I said this "Both appear to be equally easy to develop for"

Now, I don't know about you, I don't indicate any bias towards sony in there. Maybe you can't read or you're a retard. I don't know, ask a doctor.

What exactly does the 24 hour check fucking do?
Microsoft wants people to be able to install games for "online library" sharing purposes. The problem with this is that when a disk is installed onto the network, what is to prevent that disk from being installed by another dozen people? So they invented a 24hr check in system to prevent this from happening.

I understand what they are doing, I'm just not sold that it will work as well as they hope.

Batman, Scarecrow, Bane
This Joe guy seems to be stuck on the same complaints as many of you.

I still fail to see how sharing games with friends without having to give them the physical disc is a bad thing.

Probably so developers can assume that every user has a Kinect. I'm not sure how integrated it is into the OS. I'm guessing it can be plugged in and features can be disabled, much like the current version.

I highly doubt it records and sends images back to any server (the "fapping" issue). Even if it did, that data would be useless due to the sheer amount.

Like what happens with internet inconsistency when say the internet goes out or when something goes haywire with the network connectivity? There is a lot of issues with the internet connectivity in the general home... shit take a look at any wireless ps3!
Does your internet often go out for more than 24 hours at a time? If so, you should consider changing providers.

Anyway, it doesn't look like the 24 restriction cares about length of time connected or strength of connection. If you have glitchy/inconsistent internet it should still be fine (if not, that's a real problem).

It's checking the licenses of your installed programs, because you can install from physical media as well, so if a console was offline a user could install on several consoles with one disc. If they went full digital, this wouldn't be as necessary, but they're also supporting physical media that can be used to install.

Its not bad. But its also not amazing.

Xbox 1 has some good things. The digital lending, the Tv/360 comparability and... well the digital lending and the use of the HDMI port. Trouble is, these are minor things that only improve something you can already do.

Want to lend games? Just do it physically. Want to use Tv/360 just takes an extra 3 minutes to plug your 360 in or 5 seconds to change channels.

JaredL

Aww shit <REDACTED DUE TO FEELINGS> its Shapzam
Some people can't lend games physically, especially to family members that don't live within driving distance.

That's true. I also feel he needs to clarify if you can take people off the list and add new ones, because well, if you're stuck with 10 people and no way to change it, it might end up worse.

But I'll give you that, it has the advantage in ease and in distance. Though, it might get fucked up if you can just boot them off at no notice, or they can keep you from playing your game.

Its great cause steam doesn't need this check. I could never log in to steam for over 500 days and still have my games.

And yet you still have no reason to think that. The PS4 could be vastly easier to develop for, or the Xbox, or maybe the XB1 has an awesome graphics API and a terrible sound API or Sony's reserved OS resources are a nightmare to work around or whatever.

My point is that you have no idea. You do not have enough data to make that assertion. You are guessing that they are equal when you are completely ignorant of the reality of working with either. There is nothing that you have written that would indicate that you are remotely knowledgeable on the subject of game development, so your observation, that "both appear to be equally easy to develop for", is a completely random and worthless statement.

Got it?

Steam allows you to add anything to your list that's the thing. I've added pirated games to my steam library.

Dude I can "add" google chrome to my library as well. It doesn't sync and it doesn't travel with you. You get a shortcut and the steam overlay.

Steam doesn't have to deal with physical media. If MS went completely digital, they wouldn't need to check.

One of the many reasons why PC will always win the console wars. :)

It is you who is making the completely silly suggestions that things become a nightmare.

Early indicators are good for sony. That's all the evidence we have.

Now, we have some evidence. And despite this, you're telling me that we have no evidence at all and that it matters not. You're arguing for arguments sake it seems. Do I know if one will be better than the other? No. I never said I did. I'm simply telling you that there is evidence in favour of sony. I also think that microsoft will too be easy to develop for due to their 360.

That's not completely true, I can download Dawn of War from a physical disc and then add that to my steam library.

You can buy games on PC with a physical disk...always could (I did it with Max Payne 3 because its 30 fucking gigs).

But yeah PC master race.

Eh, it's a little different than what MS is doing. Games that allow you to install from physical media that include Steam integration do require authentication (often from both parties, even though this is becoming more seamless) on install. If the authentication is bullcrap, Steam (will try to) catch it on your next sync.

As far as I know, MS is allowing installation without authentication.

Edit:

I only own a console for fighting games and easy access to Netflix. PC gaming -4- evar.

Here's a question for everyone: Why are you all so upset about a 24 hour check? How much data do you think is going to have to go between you and Microsoft in order to run this check? A few hundred kilobytes? Are you people seriously implying that your connections are poor enough/data caps low enough that you cannot spare these few hundred kilobytes once a day for your games? If this is true, obviously you should not be spending your money on Xbox One, you're too poor to afford the LUXURY of an ENTERTAINMENT DEVICE. Put that money in the bank and use it for more important things in your life. It's as simple as fucking signing in, then you can sign right back out again if you really want to. SMH

Here's another question: Why is everyone so upset about the Kinect Sensor being a requirement? If you truly believe that big brother is watching you, or that you're important enough for anyone to give a singular fuck about what you say/do within range of the detector, what stops you from unplugging the damned thing when you aren't using your Xbox? What stops you from, within the software, turning off all of the Kinect features that are not directly required for gameplay mechanics? Get over yourselves.

Here's my opinion of this interview: What a fucking awful interview by Joe. There is a fine line between asking "the hard questions" and pressing for straight answers, and interrupting and being disrespectful towards the person you are interviewing. Nelson fired back with about 1/10th of the hostility he received, and made Joe's lack of knowledge on a lot of topics really shine. He even fell for the classic "Well do you agree with this broad, barely related scenario that you'd be a fool to disagree with? Yes? Then, you agree with everything I'm about to say" gag FFS. I like Joe's videos, I like his rants, he's not a bad person or anything like that. But, jesus christ, this interview was nothing short of disrespectful to Major Nelson. Mr. Hyrb is a PR GOD for dealing with Joe in the way that he did. Anyways... Microsoft has a few months still before the release of Xbox One, and they have infinity time after that to continue sculpting the console and the experience into something worth my hard earned dollars. I have no idea why everyone is writing them off already before the damned thing is even finished. And anyone buying any console right away at release is a fool anyways -- technology 101 is never buy the very first generation of a brand new technology. Give it 6 months for everything to be smoothed out and v2 to release. It'll probably be even cheaper then, anyways.

Too old for this Shit
1) why does this Kinect need to be connected at all times?

2) Like what happens with internet inconsistency when say the internet goes out or when something goes haywire with the network connectivity? There is a lot of issues with the internet connectivity in the general home... shit take a look at any wireless ps3!

3) What exactly does the 24 hour check fucking do? Why can't they explain it, cause seriously if it is just a check it can be turned off!
You know the Wii and Wii U are connected 24/7 but they explained that it is to receive updates from Nintendo and guess what, you can turn it off...
1) the best reason I heard on this topic was..Microsoft was pleased with how the Kinect was made and its final product.. However not every system had a Kinect.. In fact.. Many people didn't buy into it.. Therefore.. The dev's didn't fully buy Into it... Minimizing its capacity.. Because no title truly came into or brought the Kinect into its own. Ensuring that each XB1 is equipped.. The market is there for both dev's and consumers... It can be taken seriously and the Kinect2 the "better" Kinect can shine..why it has to be connected 24/7... I have no idea.. Still waiting and researching this.

2) the same thing that happens to your other Internet devices.. You deal with it.. And since you are at your own house can still game for 24 hrs.. Most non-reoccurring crazy issues that affect the Internet don't last 24 hrs (MINUS natural disasters). So no harm no foul..24 hrs is a lot of time..My current 360 is wireless and not the only wireless device in the home.. And it runs 98.9% fine.

3) They are really pushing the family plan.. That being said- if the system is always online (verified through the 24 hr check) this means that everyone in the family circle will ALWAYS have access to the other circle members library when they are gaming or not. Also it has been mentioned that it is to receive updates seamlessly without having to air and watch the screen while it updates.

Just trying to help clarify from what I have heard.. If you have a 360- there is some somewhat informative stuff on dashboard :)
