Microsoft Respond To Concerns Over Xbox1

Optional for some games, not all.

For example, Destiny is an always online game, so you'll be forced to use it in some form in that game. Many more of the Next gen titles are going that route as well. I guess you just won't play those though...you know, principles and all.

Oh no, I'm really looking forward to destiny.

The point is though, I don't want to be forced to connect online to play skyrim, or even call of duty campagin.

If I am prepared to go for an always online game, I will. On my terms, not on microsofts terms.

Poor business decisions for who? For me? You? Everyone else?

I think the only reason you think it is a poor business decision is because of the suposed "risks" involved, but that is where the track record of who you are following comes in, and the trends of the open market of that Industry. I've lived long enough to know that in order to make progress, some risks have to be taken, and I don't think entering into the X1's ecosystem is anymore risky than getting in bed with Sony, Apple, Google, Verizon, or any one of these big service oriented companies who have been around for a years.
It doesn't affect me in any way...it's just obvious why people are rejecting these restrictions. Its absurd.

Internet polls are completely meaningless. It all comes down to sales.

Lol that's what people say when polls don't go their way. When polls on reddit, 4chan, gametrailers, eurogamer and many other gaming sites favour sony with 90%... its hardly meaningless.

My way? I have no horse in this race. I'm a PC gamer who develops for mobile, and it's unlikely I will purchase either system until the price drops.

Do you think polls are more important than sales? Polls, good or bad, sure as hell don't fill my gas tank. Internet good will means nothing next to actual units moved off the shelf.

How about PS4 topping pre order charts?

And your horse? You've done nothing but justify the DRM and used games. Its absolutely your horse.

Take no offense to this and I am not attacking you at all, but now that you mentioned you develop for mobile and your a PC gamer, it fully explains all of your views thus far. I am not mocking you but now all your points make such sense now...

If this was flipped all you xbox fanboys would be singing and dancing in ps4 fanboy's faces. These greedy ass companies get away with this shit because fanboys and ignorant consumers let them. Vote with your dollar people the world doesn't have to be forced into DRM or no used games. It's like COD same shit every year with worse and worse netcode but everyone has a whole new way to take your money like cod elite or whatever or these stupid ass micro transactions.

The PS4 is topping the charts at this moment. Invested users are more likely to order a system 6 months before street, and Sony is aiming their marketing at the hardcore market, so there you go. Both systems will see a bump as we get closer to the actual date, and we may see a significant shift when the more casual home entertainment users have to make a decision.

I'm actually a little curious as to why people here aren't willing to take the "wait and see" approach before we declare a victor. Will you be upset if XB1 actually succeeds? Why would you want fewer parties competing for your money?

As far as the DRM and used games thing is concerned... I am less interested in justifying the current climate and more interested in explaining it. I cannot change the fact that publishers do not like used game sales, or that used game sales reduce revenue for people who produce games. Those are simply the facts, regardless of the moral implications you see in the methods producers use to overcome them.

Platforms with assumed online connectivity are trending in the market. That is a fact. The traditional console marketplace is not doing well. That is also a fact. These may justify MS's policies, but that does not change their veracity just because you do not like the outcome.

Xbox comes out sooner and the physical box was shown earlier.

And 'hardcore' market you refer to is the gaming market. The market xbox wants is the dudebro market, who are by no means a majority. They buy few games and that's it.

No. The gaming market is very wide, and not remotely as 'hardcore' as you wish it was.

Also, how is media integration and Kinect casual gaming aimed at the "dudebro" market? I'm guessing it's because "dudebros" are bad, MS is bad, therefore MS = dudebros.

I wouldn't because Twitch and Killer Instinct would then be on PS4 lol.

Agreed

This because there are so many idiots out there that are impatient as hell and refuse to wait they must get it day one, afterall look at how well this works on current games with pre-orders.

Most of what we have seen is really just the end of the current console gen, typically from what I have read before during this time in the gen, console game sales start dropping and then once next gen arrives they start booming again.

Its because gamers don't want this bullshit, and not pandering to gamers does equal bad.

Wii sold really well. But it was at its heart still for games. The gaming side of microsoft is utter shite. So what's left, a tv box? Skype box? lol that will sell well for $500

MS just wants to finish the dieing physical format model what's getting outdated. Though I believe they push it too hard, but they are a big company, that wants to make profit and if they think that's the way they will do it that way. The coming might be the very last generation with discs and stuff. I see where they are going and it will probably pay off for them. Not from the likes of me, however, I can't stand digital-only stuff. I believe with this digitalization things are losing there weight. I have about 55-60 games on steam and the are just there, these digital shops feel like torrent sites where I have to pay for every game. But I have my collection behind me. Nothing special, maybe around I don't know, 50 games? Maybe less maybe more, but I'm proud of it. Buying a real, disc based, physical copy of a game feels good. At lest for me. And what about Limited and Collector's stuff if everything is digital? Maybe we'll have a big ass box for 150$ and it'll have a download code in it for stuff to download. I've wondered off a bit from the original topic, it's like my opinion on the future of most if not all media.

tl; dr - I don't dig downloadable stuff.

You don't have rights to the games you bought. You might think you do, but you don't.

Anyway, more to you underlying point, with the X1 you can still buy, sell, and trade/share games.
Yes I do... I can play all of my games 100 years from now if I still have it and I don't have to connect to X1's server to do so.

I'm all for change, but to tell me that I can't play the games I purchase unless I authenticate with a corporate server every day, you can go fuck yourself M$... They can take their XBone and shove it so far up their asses that I hope they choke on it.

What happens in 10-15 years when those servers no longer exist and M$ drops support for the X1? All of the money you spent is gone and you have a brick. I can still play my Atari 2600/NES/SNES/TG-16/SMS/Genesis/PS1/PS2/PS3/360/etc whenever I want and will always be able to do so.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure that with all of the backlash, people will hack the shit out of this system.

All Microsoft is doing is stopping Piracy, We caused it to be like this. The only ones to blames is the modders. Not Microsoft.
