There's a lot of gameplay footage out now and it would be cool to see everyone's opinions on this. Please share your thoughts, I'd love to see what you think. I've seen some thoughts spread out in other threads, and I'm trying to build a rough consensus. So far we have:
Harley Quinn--> Sonya
Sinestro--> Shang Tsung
Shazam--> Raiden
Flash---> Johnny Cage
Catwoman---> Mileena
Doomsday--->Sheeva
BECAUSE
Harley Quinn--> Sonya
Being light-haired ladies in leather isn't all they have in common. Watching Harley's fight against Wonder Woman we saw plenty of Kartwheels, and fancy footwork reminiscent of Sonya's style. Harley might have pistols instead of an energy ring, but the intensity of her kick-heavy assault makes her closest to Sonya based on what was shown so far.
Sinestro--> Shang Tsung
Sure they are both magic-users with a dark mustache and widow's peak. On top of that, in his fight with Superman, Sinestro lifted the Man of Steel up on close, medium, long bolts of yellow which reminds you of Shang Tsung's Ground Skulls, as well as popping off projectiles which moved like Flaming Skulls. Sinestro is out of the Battle Arena now, but what was shown said Shang Tsung is his closest counterpart.
Shazam--> Raiden
So they both cover their head and use Lightning, right? There's more to it than that. Check out Shazam using a move like Raiden's signature Torpedo where he flies straight in at his opponent. Yeah, and the Lightning too. Shazam had a couple Smoke-like moves as well, but Lightning + Torpedo screams Raiden.
Flash---> Johnny Cage
From the start there is a similarity to how they bounce back and forth, even if Flash is more frantic. Johnny is an ultimate rushdown character and who does more rushing than Flash? Flash has a dash somewhat like Kabal's but isn't spamming Gas Blasts and Buzzsaw equivalents, focusing more on the rushdown aspect of gameplay which is what Johnny Cage does par excellence.
Catwoman---> Mileena
Black hair in purple outfits? There's more to it than that. Both are perhaps the fastest, most acrobatic ladies in their respective games. Add in their use of claws and what looked like some rolls in Catwoman's trailer, and Mileena seems to be the closest counterpart.
Doomsday--->Sheeva
He lobs orbs of fire, he can damage an opponent by smashing the ground really hard, and most of all he likes to hop. Watching Doomsday beat the snot out of Captain Marvel in his trailer, we saw him leap straight up in the air and come crashing down on top of his opponent, just like Sheeva. Doomsday might only have two arms, but being big, bad, strong, and doing the crash-down says Sheeva is his closest counterpart.
I'm no expert though. Please share your thoughts, I'd love to see what you think. It'd be cool to flesh this list out all of the way.
[EDIT: Adding to list as I see consensus build. Edited 3/14/13 for Doomsday Trailer, it seemed pretty obvious. Please contribute to this thread. It is more helpful if you take the time to say why you think those characters have some parity. It looks like characters in Injustice might have a wider range of moves, so nobody will be 1-to-1 with a MK character, but let's have fun with this.]
