Tekken Tag Tournament 2 General Discussion

The main reason TTT1 is so heralded is due to the level of competition it garnered in its heyday. EVERYONE was playing that game.

Honestly, TTT2 has the potential to be even better, IMO.

Also, on a side note, I used to dislike how damaging shit was in TTT2/TTT2U, until I realized how long matches lasted WITH that damage. Landing a damn CH launch hurts, but it's so necessary, lol.
Can you fill me in on why we have the game a "year" late? I don't fully understand the entire process with TTT2 and the rest of the world having it ... already.

i want to get into other fighting games besides just mk9, like tekken and streetfighter and umvc3 or maybe even blazeblue, but i've always thought tekken was a complex game and was reallly really hard to get good at. As a matter of fact, the only game i could think of that was more complex is virtua fighter. How hard is it exactly?

Tekken games always launch in arcades first, then console. It took two years for t6 to come out of console because of bad business decisions. Usually each tekken takes 1 year or slightly more.

Since arcades still do relatively well in korea and japan, they get a lot of cabinets while america might get 1 or 2, in the whole country because of how much the arcade cabinet costs and the lack of profit due to the arcade scene on a life line in america.

But since Tekken games launch in arcades first, they are usually the most balanced fighter when it comes out on console. Several updates and patches and feedback from hundreds of top players help bring balance to the game. So there are positives and negatives. But with TTT2, I can see a patch coming because about 10 characters were thrown in specifically for the console release and angel looks real dumb right now.

Well, technically, the world has TTT2 at around the same time, but outside of Japan, you basically only have it in select areas with arcades that import games. Starting with T6, Namco releases Tekken to arcades first, letting it become fleshed out and bring in some revenue from those resources for at least a year, then they make a revision of the game that will be the version you get on consoles. They let that flesh out and bring in revenue before the console version is dropped.

We don't really have the game a year late, but because not many countries outside of the few Asian countries with truly thriving arcades have the game as widely available in arcades, most of the world is generally behind on the game by a considerable amount.

Axel_Redd, Tekken is indeed pretty difficult to learn and definitely complex. There's a lot of things to know about the game...movelists are huge, and you basically have to know frame data for a number of these moves (you usually will just know the select few that are actually resourceful and the rest are basically random knowledge that you should know in the event it does get used a lot). Then there's knowing the mechanics all the way through, knowing how to break throws on reaction since they are telegraphed, and knowing how to move fluidly. Moving in Tekken is a good deal more execution intensive than most 3D fighters, due to the backdash cancel and wavedashing. Combos and stuff aren't overly difficult, fortunately, excluding the select few that involve things like just frames.

It's pretty complex, but not impossible to really get into. And thankfully, Namco is helping beginners out a lot with their tutorial, and are even adding things to the training and replay modes to make it a lot easier to be able to experiment and study footage of various scenarios. It's definitely a fun game, though.

Kizzle, actually, from what I'm hearing, Angel doesn't seem that great in comparison to the other Mishimas.

what about virtua fighter? isn't that game like super hard to master too?
VF is pretty hard to master as well.

I can't say which one is harder for sure, but to me, Tekken feels harder moreso because of how much of an emphasis there is on movement and it feels much more based on spacing, reads and knowledge as a whole, rather than just reads and knowledge. That's to me, though, in my limited time with VF.

I am not too familiar with Virtua Fighter, but Tekken is not hard to master unless you intend to use the Mishimas at the highest level possible. That is why Namco likes to make the Mishimas top tier and some of the lesser execution characters high mid and mid tier. The reason beginners have a hard time getting into Tekken is because they do not know the rules of the game with respect to move lists, movement, juggles, frame data, etc.

I hate to be nosey.... but is Tekken the reason you hold the controller like you do?

Mishimas are hard because top tier goons like to think they are achieving something when they do EGWF's and wavedashes when in reality its a piece of piss.

Not being racist or anything though but if you arent korean youre already doing it wrong.

I can't wait for the influx of MK players that cannot cope with a game this technical. It will be like the SCV Natsu complainers all over again.

Shall I start a "Dropping this game, who wants to play MK?" thread now or next week?
LOL..... this guy..... Calls out Natsu complainers. Won't play Dink's Natsu for a month :)

"SHE"S BROKEN!!!!!"
Most of the people posting on here are the EU guys... not many US players.

How is Law in this game?

Never mind, that is a helluva broad question, so I will just ask about everyone's experience with the online play, thus far.

Asian players reckon he's bottom.

Not sure about Forest, gonna play him as a secondary with Ling. He has a dragon kick cancel, a cancellable mid that does alot of damage on hit, dunno how negative it is though. Very compatible as a tag partner since he can assist anywhere and also looks a strong point character.

It's not as technical as everybody makes it out to be IMO, just harder to move around than in 2D, and movelists are bigger.

I've started to get into it pretty well ATM I think. But I've only had Sakishiro to play against that I know is a top player.

Things like throw breaks are reactable, I can't do that 100% yet but it feels similar to MK especially if you know the throws are coming.

Aren't throw breaks easier in TTT2 anyways than MK since you have longer reaction time? Although the throw system is way more complex.
