Region lock

If it's not region locked, I hope you have a selector to choose the regions you want to play against. The connection eu-usa was awful some times in mkx, and the player should be able to avoid that.

Derek got asked about it in that one interview and he basically said "I can't answer that" so I guess there's a chance?

I don't see how people can play fighters online and not be hard wired
I feel like there should be a huge disclaimer in most fighting games reminding people to wire their connection lol.

People would be surprised to know that a good huge percentage of people who play online don't even know that the reason they are lagging is their own un-wired connection.

I have friends that don't wire and it drives me crazy. They swear up and down it isn't their connection though. Like yeah, they would have fewer lag spikes if they'd just use a damn ethernet cable.
My friends that do wire....buttery.

Given how infamously atrocious NRS net-code is, they might as well region-lock the online play, for what it's worth in effect. That, or at least give players a region filter to use at their leisure.

Frankly, this is the ever-present elephant in the NRS room, that is continually drowned out by the din of "Why Aren't [insert female character]'s Tits Bigger" and "Why Does Sonya Look Like A Gorgon... AGAIN!?" shit-posts that predominate pre-launch chatter:

WHEN WILL NRS FIX THE NET-CODE AND THE ONLINE FUNCTIONALITY OF THEIR FIGHTING GAMES, SUCH THAT THEY ARE ON PAR WITH THE "AAA" PRODUCTION VALUES OF THE REST OF THEIR PRODUCTS??

All the chatter about "online" this and "variations" that -- given the online play is so sketchy in NRS games and, indeed, the fact that all of the non purely aesthetic customisation accoutrements are always locked away from competitive game modes -- amount to are trifles pungent as flatulence. People should be more interested in the offline component of the game (namely: local versus play) being fully fleshed out and functional... You know, like, with all customisation available for use by BOTH players <_<.

For everyone, deep down knows that, barring some earth-rending departure from we've become accustomed to from this company / developer, M11K's online play will fade and fade
fast--once the new game lustre wears off and people begin donning their critical fedoras...

Tbh compared to many other fighting game series online, MKX online after their big overhaul and Injustice2 online were'nt too bad. That being said, it's not the absolute best and it could be improved as far as netcode and online features. It might be my rose tinted glasses talking, but I think this time around the netcode will be even better after they work out the kinks of the initial post-launch insanity the servers will take on.

------------

From what the developers have been saying too though, it seems like they are super excited to show what they have in store for the online features. I think it's a big focus for them, which it should.

I'm literally going crazy with suspense. Not even kidding, I think about the possibilities with this game competitively and online ALL day long. Due to Street Fighter 5's fading light in the competitive scene, this game could really be the most important fighting game to come out since Street Fighter 4 across the entire FGC.

So I hope my dreams will come true and everything will be as close to perfect online as far as connection and features go. It's such a big deal for the longevity of a fighting game.

NRS if you're reading this, know that I'm cheering you guys on from home constantly. Good luck, seriously. I know it's not easy.

You must play on wifi.
After the debacle with mkx, they fixed their netcode. It doesn't hiccup nearly as much as used to. Nrs is also one of very few devs that actually use ggpo.

Furthermore, it doesn't matter how great the netcode is. If you're playing against someone using wifi or with terrible internet, you're gonna notice it. Plain and simple.

You can tell this dude hasn't played any NRS game newer than 2013 lmao.

Gr8 b8, m8. 8.8/8.

Having dismissed that, for games with the rote combo mechanics, like those NRS produce, good net-code is essential -- more so than for fighting games with a more free-flowing style of attack chaining. For once the juggle starts, one can put their controller down. That, and if the latency isn't hidden well enough to facilitate international play, again, they must offer a region-lock option. At least that way, people can experience (I assume / hope) playable connections during the game's honeymoon period; later reverting to the laggier international play, or just staying offline.

I hope it does not and just has a good connection system. I hope you can choose what connection the enemy will have like tekken and street fighter. I dont want to play with laggy asses but i dont want to limit my options.

Honestly its easy to just come out and say WiFi is the problem. If you can be wired you should be, and WiFi isn't ideal, but most of the time it isn't the real problem. Usually what is actually going on is people don't know how to take care of their stuff. Power cycling your modem and router regularly to keep things fresh, making sure you have relatively new and strong WiFi equipment (not extenders), investing in a really strong and high quality wireless gaming router, keeping your system close to the router and between as few walls as possible and more. Yes if you just take the default modem and router your ISP provides you, you're not using high quality equipment. Take matters into your own hands and invest in a good router and you're fine. I've been gaming on WiFi for years, from fighting games to shooters like the Call of Duty series and more and my ping is always among the lowest and best out there and I rarely have issues. Hard wiring is optimal, but it is not a necessity.

To answer ops question: I don't think it will be region locked, but just my opinion.

The levels of inaccuracy with this post are embarrassing.
