By the way no I don't think jax should get nerfed. It may seem like I hate him but I don't, I just think he is the best, that doesn't mean he should get nerfed, it just means I think he is the best. I don't think anyone needs nerfing, I just think to balance the game a couple characters need buffing, like Mileena, Jason, maybe goro depending on if he is s actually still needs them but I doubt it considering how kaotic armor is godlike with him, and kenshi definitely needs to be taken out of beta. All three (maybe 4 depending on if the goro community still thinks goro needs buffs but I doubt he needs them) of these characters definitely need buffs to keep up with the rest of the cast
I don't agree with you. I don't think Jax is top 5, top 10 sure. I do thank you for explaining your point so well though.

I voted kung lao, but only because he is the most complete and the best in the hands of someone who understand the game well+has good defense. If we are talking about BS, liu kang, quan, cassie, tanya, predator all beat KL in that department.

Can't go wrong with Cassie or Lao, but I picked Cassie. I just feel like her harassing offense is better in Hollywood. Temp is better defensively because you have to respect the EX Spin.
Wouldn't you have to respect the ex flipkick more during pressure, because it is safe and faster? Ex spin does have a better hitbox for anti air.

Yes, but the bolded is exactly what I had in mind. People love to jump in this game. The spin is especially effective on divekicks.

nothing compared to any Kotal's normal
Tools don't work in isolation. F2 alone might not be as good as some of Kotal's normals but when you combine it with everything else KL has then it becomes absolutely ridiculous, especially with f2~hat spin, which is a safe launcher that only leaves you at -3.

Imma say KL but Tanya is my most hated character. She's so boring IMO and on top of that she's broke. Same with Cassie but not quite as bad.

Do not touch me again.
@Pig Of The Hut i hope this isn't a "people to add to my block list" thread cuz I went 100% with my gut on this one lol.

Anyway, I disagree with Lao being the strongest. IMO Lao always has a good following and thus he gets explored MUCH more quickly than other characters in MK games. It was years before people admitted he had a losing matchup to Kitana in MK9, remember.

As we've seen just this week, the defensive tech always comes later than the offensive tech, so I think as more people master Lao's spacing and learn how to counter-attack his shenanigans, he'll be much easier to deal with.

I voted for Shinnok. He has a wide range of tools, every kind of hitting move (overhead, low, mid, unblockable, throw), fast, forward advancing attacks, frame traps, tick throws, zoning, and mind games with meter burn hell sparks. He's the kind of character that can change it up endlessly just when you think you've got him figured out, and he's either safe or can make himself safe on just about everything.

Disagree about Quan, too. He's all momentum based and the trick to beating him is to never let him get his game going. If you budget your meter and lifebar correctly, you can strategically set yourself up for an advantageous third round either by corner positioning, meter, or both. Someone with that clear of a way to beat him isnt the strongest in this game, IMO.

I would actually argue the opposite, Lao's F2 is all kinds of nice by itself but anything after it on block is definitely not challenged often enough with an interruption, which I also admit to being guilty of. (although I'd like to think my reasons for not doing so are more valid than most others lol)

I want Kronika to step on my face
So are we basing "best" based on tools or match ups?

If we're talking match ups, can I point out that in my opinion, there is more than one character that goes even or beats the cast?

Kung Lao wins or goes even...and so does BS Shinnok.

I think the two fighting each other is even.

#sorrynotsorry
BS loses to Quan Chi, IMO.

f2xxhatspin has a gap, so does f23, i know stagger f2 might be a good mind game cause it's only -1, it's good for footies and whiff punish if you tell me, but it's nowhere near as good as Kotal b1 and Cassie b1...

Lao's main mind game comes from 112124xxexhat, and all the staggers from this strings combined with OH and throw mixups, that's what makes Lao's pressure godlike.

EDIT: f2 is not a mind game at all, now that I'm thinking about it

I'm platinum mad!
Tier placement shouldn't be determined by the number of winning match-ups.
They should be determined by the number of losing match-ups.

Green Lantern Corps.
Jax IMO, I'm still convinced he doesn't have any bad match ups, and I know a lot of jax players are going to blow me up for this talking about low profiling and how like 2 of his moves aren't safe but nothing is going to change my mind, he has so much dirt and is way under utilized as fuck, he has insane damage in the corner for little effort, insane corner carry, and his projectile is +8 on block. Basically his frame data makes me die a little inside from jealousy.
Jax has a few bad MU's and potential bad MU's. GM, Shinnok IMO are 100% 6-4 then throughout the Jax community others are considered potential bad MU's such as KL, Cassie, JC etc. What dirt this character has is beyond me but I plan to be going over Jax fully with @PND i2 Gaug3 and you will be able to take counters to Jax away from this as well. His projectile being plus doesn't mean much considering 1. it doesn't give him anything full screen and 2. Is full combo punishable from any string - stand4 (which is a high)

anyways, i voted Lao.

cause he's all around solid and has an answer for everything, with only a few even MU (RS Kitana, GM sub, BS Shinnok, Sorc/Summ Quan).

plus his jump back 2 is a great defensive tool.

Summoner.

Hmm. I don't know. Granted, Summoner zoning is certainly better, but you can play outside B2 range with Hellsparks for sure. Plus, b3 is only -11. Quan's best punish is stand 2 at 8 frames and I remember reading that Shinnok can space it to make it safer.
