Brain dead offense is always a good thing so um I guess this is a net positive?
Wasn't he talking about the 1+2+3 OS ? I'm not sure he said anything regarding these specifics OS.Paulo has said a couple of times that they will be removing these from the game.
That is what I am scared of. What if it can't be removed and it turns out to have a really bad unfluence for the gamePaulo has said nothing about removing the special cancel OS's from what I have heard.
The 1+2+3 thing is a shortcut that is being removed for different reasons.
These type of OS's (the special cancel ones) existed in the other NRS games they just werent as prominent because it was hard to find them due to limited training mode (Mk9) and they werent really that useful in Injustice because the game revolved around other mechanics being much stronger.
I agree that it takes the risk out of offense but I honestly dont even know if they can change it if they wanted to. It seems embedded into how the games block stun works.
IThat has been made clear in the OPAre so many people opposed to hit confirming that they want this removed? That is what these option selects allow you to do. If your string hits let the special come out, if it doesnt hit, tap forward and wipe the special from the buffer window so you don't have to commit to it. Why is that a bad thing?
He was talking about the 1+2+3 MB option selects, not the one this thread refers to.Paulo has said a couple of times that they will be removing these from the game.
Because it gets rid of the little risk reward there is in the game. Are so many people opposed to hit confirming that they want this removed (the special cancel os)? If your string hits let the special come out, if it doesnt hit, tap forward and wipe the special from the buffer window so you don't have to commit to it. Why is that a bad thing?
I am talking about the special cancel options select, to be clear. the one that clears a special from the buffer by adding a directional input. NOT THE ONE THAT LETS YOU CANCEL A SPECIAL INTO A STRING. Though I guess they are intertwined.IThat has been made clear in the OP
Ohh okay. I still can't wrap my head around all this OS talk...He was talking about the 1+2+3 MB option selects, not the one this thread refers to.
There have been no mentions of removing the OS this thread is talking about other than Tom Brady making up that they'll be removed in his efforts to protect Sub Zero.
What option select allows you to cancel a special into a string?I am talking about the special cancel options select, to be clear. the one that clears a special from the buffer by adding a directional input. Yeah but that explanation is dependent on your view that "string/ normals were not meant to be safe". Most NRS games have a multitude of strings that are unsafe. Those strings were always made safe by cancelling into a special that left you safe, by either leaving you in plus frames or provided enough pushback that you were put out of range of punishes. If the special did not allow for this, you did not use this special in a starter string. If no specials allowed for this you were forced to use the one or two strings that left you safe on block. This had the effect of limiting your offensive tools, and made characters very one dimensional. All this option select allows you to do, is hit confirm into those unsafe specials using safe strings. Which is what every non NRS fighter out there allows you to do. If you start off with an unsafe string, and use this option select, you are still unsafe. This lets you hit confirm into specials instead of blindly committing to them due to the dial a string combo system. Which then opens up the characters to be used in a variety of ways.
I see people here are talking about the other option select that cancels a special into a string. That one is dumb.
It really is just a case-by-case basis. Option-selects aren't inherently bad. SFIV is full of them, and a ton of fun gameplay revolves around punishing them. Have you ever counter hit a guy mashing OS Tech?I understand that people are concerned but I honestly dont think it will kill the game or anything that drastic. I get that just about everyone would want it removed because it does not reward smart play or guessing right in a game where that is a necessity.
This OS helps some characters in the bottom get better but i still believe it benefits the top tier the most which is also unfortunate. Its just something that people will get used to over time and adapt to.
