I mainly messed around with royal storm and I am having a blast with this variation. The zoning is incredible due to her quick fans.

also, it seems that f334 and f22u3 and be interrupted with armor. no other strings were interrupted.

her DB2 rapes armor moves, since its a quick 2 hitting move.

1, 2 and f3 seem like very good AAs, along with d2

JK fan is still as glorious as ever.

What BnB safe strings would you recommend in the Royal Storm variation,
Footsies and zoning.

Instant Air Fan is still good but the real juice is ground fan. It's so much faster than MK9's ground fan. Spam Ground Fan while mixing in varying heights of Air Fan to control the ground and air.

Once you've established that start playing a long distance footsies game with f+2, d+4 and sweep. Run in and mix up throw with attacks.

If you're jumping in you can do jump in 1,1,1 to jail into a block string. If they're respecting this and blocking start mixing up b+2, sweep and throw. If they're anti-airing you bait an AA with jump into the Float and then bop them with a NJP when their AA whiffs.
What would be the go to or safe BnB block string to go with in the Royal Storm Variation..any suggestions

Meh, really liked Kitana but she definitely feels weak to me:( Just no real mixups to open ppl up. Doesn't matter how high your damage is if you can't open ppl up. If I was to change one thing about her, I would make her overhead a ground bounce that allows for combos. I think that would be enough to make her viable.
But she is viable.

Really Idk why people demand overhead and low combos for everyone. If not, char is not viable. As I said I'm new at MKX so probably I'm wrong but I see to Kitana very good char. Within competitive Tekken (I know this is not Tekken btw) better chars has not combo from low, just safe mid launchers and decent lows. Kitana is similar. She has a couple of safe strings to combo and many safes moves, including overhead and knock down low. Thats more than most chars can offer. (Also, u~float~2 is overhead combo)

Mileena for example, she has low and overhead combo but she is pretty unsafe, you dont have to open Mileena, just spacing, zoning and punish her. Same for the most chars.
 
I'm not a pro or nothing at this game but when I play against my friend who uses Sonya he just crouches not blocking and the fans completely miss her, is this supposed to happen or what?
 
yes it works with all high projectiles not just kitanas u can duck wihtout blocking to avoid them. HIgh attack arent meant to be unavoidable.

I hope you're kidding when you say that's more than most characters can offer....

It's so much more than the lack of OH/LOW starters. Realistically speaking, that's the least of her concerns.

Her lack of range from pokes, normals, and her god awful strings disables her from the games meta of strong spacing and footsies. Not to mention she is unsafe on almost everything.

It takes minutes for competent players to get around her "amazing zoning" and now you will be fighting upclose. Good luck with your punishable specials and your -8 fans. Lmao they literally just said on AK'S stream that she is ass.

Top players everywhere are saying she is a joke. They just aren't saying it here on TYM.

Her B2 (which leads to nothing and for an amazing 9%) and her nj~float~njp are all just gimmicks going unpunished.

Just because players have won matches in WEEK 1/2 local tournaments does not negate her many flaws and weaknesses.

While I don't think she is "Jade" tier, she is definitely not top tier. Like you said, it doesn't take long for competent players to figure out how to get around her zoning... which is why in the long run, I feel Mournful will be her best variation as you can actually do chip damage and build more meter because of it while zoning.

There are things she has going for her... her unbreakable damage in RS/A which can be done on any punish. Her ridiculous 4 frame J2 which is really really good against crossups and jump-ins. Her ground fan recovery is really good too and Throat Slice can punish things her reach can't. Low pokes d1 and d4 are really good where d1 gives her the Instant J2 meta I discovered which is on par with and works alongside the f22u4 meta... d4~Fan is a good tool as well which forced people to block after blocking or being hit with a d4 because you can't duck the Fan afterwards... though it is -10, I am not sure what can be done to punish it outside of Sub-Zero's slide.

All that being said, I feel that once the competitive community start to realize her faults, she will be much less effective. But I also agree with @GGA 16 Bit in that the community is lazy and the f22u4 meta will survive as d1~cutter has all these years.

I feel comfortable enough with Royal Storm now that I plan to work on Mournful for a few days exclusively online to get a feel for her variation specific combos and situations.
 
really hating the liu kang matchup, definitely need more practice. he seems like hes safe on a lot of his string and he can easily outzone me if im not using royal storm. i try to armour through a low fireball and he can throw another before i get to him with Assassin Strike.

Ok, after this consensus obviously I have to be wrong. Now, I would like to know why.

About GF, you say -8 or -10, but I cant punish it. Just with Mileena bd4 at super close range which has no sense use it instead of f11 string or f112 string, or with subzero slide at medium range as Konqrr said. So, what's the problem with GF?

Lack of range for pokes? 2,1,2~GF. Good range and safe. Not combo starter but in that case you may take a risk with f+22u4 variations (super easy hit confirmable) which depending the variation opponent have to guess to punish it.

Now, plz, I would like to know chars with safe strings to combo, safe missiles zoning, pokes with range, OH/LOW combos, and fast punishers, all in one ofc, as you demand to Kitana.

I don't think anyone's expecting every single one of those things from a single character - just that if a character doesn't have any of them, it puts limits on how far they can go.
 
When talking about weak and strong characters we have to remember that this is NRS we are talking about. Patches will be on the way and characters that are strong might get hit with the almighty NERF BAT, and characters that are weak might get significantly stronger in an instant. So many people complained about Deadpool when Injustice first released, same thing with Scorpion etc. Then NRS hit them up to make everyone happy. To you Kitana players out there, just play it out, adapt and roll with the punches. We will see what the future brings.

So I've been putting in A LOT of work in the lab and player match ( I know no one cares about player match, just bare with me though, I'll be headed to rank soon.)

But just to prove how much work I've been putting in


Now I've just been using Assassin but I'll work on her other variations. Anyways I feel like her normals aren't up to par with other characters. They are.....ok to to say the least, still don't know the point of standing 4. I mean just look at liu kangs normals...too good. Btw liu kang has the potential to keep up with her zoning with his fireballs. I just thought that was kind of odd.

However her zoning is incredible! Guaranteed one of the best zoners in the game imo. She does have problems fighting people with teleports though, but that's where the assassin's parry comes into play, and while buffed it's deadly as f***.

Back 4 is amazing, it's fast, and it seems her hurtbox changes, it crushes a lot of stuff. Very good poke. She does lack mixups, but that doesn't make her bad. Focus on frustrating your opponent with fans. However if your opponent seems content and calm with walking foward blocking, walking foward blocking, walking foward blocking....dash up and grab them, her foward dash in great.

I can definitely see some buffs for her in the future in some areas, but in turn they might nerf other things to keep balance. Think I'm gonna learn Mournful Variation next........God I miss Jade.

I want Revenant so bad as well as Klassic. I've been grinding hard on MKX mobile to get that level 40. I'm only at 28 and ranking up gets slower by the number.
 
I got Revenant randomly as well, and I know the same happened for Runway. Maybe it has something to do with using her for a specific amount of time in online matches/KOTH? I dunno, but like Jimmy said there was no notification, it was just randomly there.

My only issue is that now having seen the costume close up and realizing she has skulls in her hair I can't not picture her as Pebbles Flintstone -_-

It's good when you use it in f334 strings and your opponent likes to duck as it'll send them flying to let you play neutral again
F334 has a gap that can be armored.

* I only tested with TS, and it's 10 frames, so, lotsa shit is gonna be able to blow this string up.

I can confirm this is TRUE. I just unlocked it after going AFK and paying respect to a bunch of matches in KOTH. I usually don't really pay respect to players in KOTH Because I'm always either the king or I'm doing something else when it's not my turn. Thank you

Also there is no notification for it. It's just pops up in the costumes

how many times did you have to do it? Also what does the alt colour look like for it?
