Everything wrong with Destiny

So I promised myself I would give Destiny a solid amount of time before I came to a solid review and after no-life'in the absolute shit out of the game and reaching iLevel 29 and completing ALL current in game content here is everything wrong with Destiny.

1. Bungie obviously didnt think people would grind THIS hard. The fact that I (and a shit load of other people) completed all of an MMOs content in two weeks while holding down a full time job is terrible.

2. Classes and the gear they wear mean almost nothing. You would assume a titan could take a hell of a more pounding than a warlock right? Wrong, a Titan will take ONE maybe two more hits over a Warlock at iLevel 29 and our defense ratings are the exact same. There is zero differental between class gear (my chest piece has 406 defense and so does everyone else.)

3. PvP is a total joke. Blade dancer, shotgun, and win. Nuff said.

4. Bosses are boring as fuck. Seriously. They are bullet sponges with adds. Every. Single. One.

5. Obvious withheld content.

6. The loot table is retarded. The system is based off of sheer number of mobs killed and not difficulty of mobs downed so therefore spots such as the gloryhole on earth will reign supreame because there is 0 reason why I would fight a level 28 ogre that has the same drop rate for legendary gear as a level 3 thrall with a 6 second respawn rate.

7. Lengendary weapons are useless and the DPS counter is waaaaaaaaay off. The big number in the top left means nothing at all. The game bases damage off of impact vs rate of fire vs aoe splash damage. The best weapon you can have atm is anything that has explosive rounds and high impact. There is no fucking exuse as to why my scout rifle out DPS an auto rifle at point blank range. Really the only reason why a legendary weapon is SLIGHTLY better than a rare is because of the CHANCE for certain weapon abilited (explosive rounds, grenadier, ect.)

8. Super repetative gameplay. Every strike and every mission feels exaclty the same. The fact that I have a one size fits all gear set and ability set is a problem. What is the point of options if none of them matter?

9. Nightfall strikes are a joke. The way they are designed is not to force a high level of comminication between players but it forces you to cheese your way through them. I have beaten them all so far and each one was using boring ass tactics because it is the only viable way of completion.

10. No effective way to grind at higher level. After you obtain a full legendary set there is no effective way to upgrade your set. This is either a design flaw or bungies sad way to attempt to prevent completion prior to DLC (fail.)

All in all Destiny was a fun ride but after only two weeks in (granted I played the shit out of it) I have managed to exhaust all Destiny has to offer. I imagine that most people are not far off from me and I forsee a sharp drop off in number of players weeeeelllll before the DLC dates.

I'm still lovin' it. Guess that's the benefit of not grinding too hard and just enjoying the social aspect of the game.
See I have no idea what the "social aspects" are aside from running the same 5 strikes over and over. Hell I cant even talk during PvP. The main problem is that outside of the short ass story there is nothing really to do. After level 20 your only options is to play the raid (which is a blast I must say) and just do the same strikes but at higher levels.

That's probably where we differ the most then on our opinion on the game. I don't much like talking to other (random) players. They're never helpful or strategic, usually just obnoxious little kids or some annoying wanna-be blaring his static-filled rap music over the headset. I've got 4 other people I play with, they're the only ones I like talking to because they actually play the objective of whatever Crucible match we're in.

I also like the fact that we can play missions at a higher level, especially since some of the others may need missions completed. I've enjoyed the strikes so far, haven't played the raid yet. But I haven't beat the game yet, I've taken my time and am enjoying it.

I've heard the same things that you have said. Lot of my friends that have played BL2 and Destiny say that BL2 blows Destiny outta the water in just about everything. Not wasting my money on this cash grab.

I am absolutely lovig this game. For the first time in years me and all my friends picked up the same shooter and it is brilliant. This is the first time since modern warfare 2 where i've had the social aspect of a game and the thing that makes it better is this games pvp is frustrating as fuck. God ypu should hear some of the obscenities me and my friends are yelling over the microphone, i love it. Makes me feel like im in high school again. This games the perfect mix of cod (frustrating yet addicting) and halo (bullshit op weapon/abilities). This game seriously pisses me and my friends off and its the most fun ive had with a shooter in years

I completely agree with all of this. I was so disappointed with the game that I dropped like 2 days after release. The flawed loot drop system and boring repetitive missions are what made me kinda even hate the game. The story is a flat out joke.

I picked this up becuase im not a story guy at all and everyone said this will change my mind, well they were wrong its rinse and repeat missions with no reall diffrence. The only reason i hit my level 20 is because of pvp, multiplayer was always how i liked shooters.

But being an fps player i have a few major gripes for online, they need to take care of the whole shotgun/fusion rifle non sense especially the damn warlock/ shotgun weapon balance in general doesnt make sense and to quickly sum up my issues i feel you die to quick ( should be more like halo) if you have a shield you shouldnt die seemingly as fast as cod.

-_- my point was judging a game based on what you don't like about it is going to make any game look like crap no matter how long you play it
Lol what? Im pointing out the major flaws. There is no possible way Destiny can have long lasting appeal in its current form which makes it a sub par MMO. At this point the good aspects of Destiny are heavily outweighed by the cons. Please do not be a fan boy and just say "nuh uh" and run away. By all means if you can counter ANY one of my points let me know.

@Fractured_Shadow is pretty much spot on with everything he listed. Bungie did fix the "Loot Cave", however. It now has a 40 second respawn timer and so do many other caves in the game.

Bungie is trying to draw everything out as much as they can because people are DONE with a game's end-game that is SUPPOSED to be an MMO.

I don't think they really thought it through when it comes down to just how much grinding people will do in a game to progress as fast as they can and they really limited the currently available content.

Then, they nerfed the ability to get Ascendant Shards from the Queen's bounties, which resulted in people questioning what the point of doing them was because the legendary items they yield aren't really any better than what you likely already have. So, this "event" that's lasting until the 3rd of October is now pointless. People have to go back to getting maybe 2-3 Shards a day if they're lucky when they need around 80 or so to fully upgrade their equipment.

You plateau in this game so unbelievably fast that it's not even funny. The only thing that's not completely static is the PvP and that's still not worth it because it's overrun by shotguns and Bladedancer Hunters.

I also 100% agree with what he said about weapons. You pretty much feel like you're doing the same damage from beginning to end. Your damage and armor gets scaled DOWN from what I can tell depending on your enemy's level. If you're 24 and they're 3, you should be one shotting them, regardless of what type of enemy they are. If I come across a level 3 Captain and I have a fully upgraded weapon, he should drop the second I pull the trigger and the bullets hit him.

Bosses are so dull and boring that people have found methods to make them completely mind numbingly boring because it's the most effective thing to do as no strategy is required.

It seems to me that Bungie will be putting all of their efforts into raid content, but make it a pain in the ass to attempt them, much less complete them.

I have high hopes for this game and enjoyed my time spent with it, but I guess the monotony finally caught up with me and I haven't been playing it at all lately.

I was actually thinking of getting this but nah Ill stick to Diablo 3.
Someone sent this picture the other day, how true is the Destiny pic?
It's pretty accurate. It's kinda sad when this is supposed to be a loot-based game.

this is the problem with this genre, and why its such a niche genre. MMOFPS comes from a latin root word that is literally translated as "shoot this......okay now shoot this 8 times, alright now shoot the same guy except on moon." that being said, I still play the shit outta this every day despite having done 95% of all content. wont stop till im light Lv30, so probably next Tuesday :DOGE:

For one the game is a open world first person shooter, not an mmo. It does have a structure that is simular to what you will find in a mmo but it is still a FPS, never has bungie stated otherwise.
every super in the game is OP by design. I agree blade dancer is ridiculous but doesnt ruin pvp nor does the no range shotguns. I could go on but I can't be bothered, most your points are opinion based and not factual and if we were to argue are opinions which clearly differ allot it would go on for too long. My point was simply that if this is meant to be a review then its a bad one

So, I'm pretty sure you've all seen Angry Joe's review of Destiny. Yesterday he put up a podcast explaining his thought process behind it as well as speaking on the patch that Bungie just put out. It's pretty lengthy but they talk about some stuff that will most likely infuriate you like it did to me. I can't believe how much Bungie held out on this game. Either that, or Activision forced them to remove certain sections to just be released as DLC later.

But it is an MMO...

It's an MMOFPS. Massively multiplayer online first person shooter.

No one said it's an MMORPG. There are various types of MMOs.
