Breakthrough - Goro Goro Confirmed + Mortal Kombat X Release Date Finally Announced!

And tournament organizers are going to know to have how many copies of MK X pre-ordered in advance and the code working on the consoles they have there?

The problem isn't knowing how to get it- it's theres basically a deadline after which it can't be acquired, which causes problems for a game that needs to be consistent in a tournament setting. Pre-order codes only work on a console to console basis.
There is no deadline. If your TO doesn't get Goro for his set ups, means you have a short sighted TO, not that everyone in the world needs to ban Goro.

He might just be unlockable for non-preorders. Or available 6 months after release #komplete

That's a deadline.

Even if it's short-sighted to miss the deadline, it's still a deadline by which if they don't have enough copies pre-ordered, they aren't going to be able to have a character consistently available across consoles no matter what- and they'll have to rely on people bringing their own.

I honestly don't know much about this TO stuff or how they go about doing this. But I'd like to hear from someone who is- because they'd know if this could be an issue or not that would interfere with having Goro be tournament-playable.

I think @Mikemetroid does this TO stuff... So, would Goro be able to feasibly be a tournament character for the time which he's pre-order exclusive?

I'm so against marketing
Jesus, what exactly is wrong with a company trying to sell a product? Making a product as attractive as possible has ALWAYS been a thing. Am I a bad person since I'm getting a degree in marketing? If you don't want a product then no one can force you to buy it, and that's why there are incentives...to get as many people as possible to WANT to buy it. What is wrong with that?

Edit: Also, I would like to say that we should all support local businesses. So buying from a mom and pop store would be admirable by itself, not as a suffering you'd endure to spite a marketing campaign.

Recently EA UFC had Bruce Lee as a preorder bonus. If you didn't preorder him then he was unlockable by either paying $5.99 upon purchase of the game, or by beating career mode.

NRS isn't so stupid that they're going to lock out one of their most iconic characters from tourneys 7 months before release. I'd assume Goro will be under a similar set up that EA did with Bruce Lee, and it shouldn't effect tournaments in any way.

I really dislike pre-order exclusive stuff like this. Just put it on the f'ing disc please. With that said, pre-ordering isn't bad at all--$5 down and if the game comes out and you don't want it, simply move that money to a different game you will buy. It's really not that bad, but I just hate that this could mean issues for tournament play. Why complicate it NRS? Just make him a playable character end of story. If you insist on doing bullshit pre-order bonuses at least have the sense to make it costumes or something that isn't gameplay related. Seriously, this is a stupid move that is going to complicate things for tournaments and players, just change it now and make the pre-order a costume or something.

I've been waiting for some kind of collectors edition bundle before pre ordering. I'll continue to wait all the way until the day before if I have to but dam do I want GORO.

Part-Time Kano Hostage
What if they did this specifically for tournaments. Remember the debacle with Quan and Cyber Sub near release time? Some systems didn't have them unlocked through the story.

Maybe this way the tournament organizers our anyone for that matter could get the story unlocked character right off the bat.

Oh fuck, I really hope I'm wrong, but the way it's worded makes me think it's just for some stupid minigame in whatever "challenge mode" they decide to implement. Every other character reveal has been paired with actual gameplay footage. The fact that Goro does not have that footage, coupled with the fact that he's a fucking pre-order exclusive, makes me think he won't be available for standard vs-mode matches. If I'm wrong then I've found my 2nd main (no one will ever replace you, Kano <3), but I definitely have a sneaking suspicion there are shenanigans at play!

If TOs can't contact registered players / friends / family members to get enough codes / accounts / whatever to get this sorted out before they decide to have MKX at their tournament, the entire scene should not lose access to a character. Presuming GOro comes out day one, that is a 7 month lead for anybody planning on running an MKX tourney. If you're a TO and you can't buy the copies or acquire the codes, you don't run the game. We don't just say, welp this character that everyone with foresight had is off the table.

It also seems like a lot of people have the wrong idea about how pre-ordering works. The money you put down comes off the final price, so it doesn't cost you anything extra. You are also able to cancel your preorder and receive a full refund at any point in time, even months after the game has been released. Preordering also helps NRS estimate how many copies they need to ship, in effect saving them time and money. There is literally no reason to be against preordering, unless you just absolutely can't stand that one extra trip to the store.

So what you are saying is for me to STEAL the Goro code when somehow actually legitimately buying the game and not stealing it is bad? wtf lol

Buying a game before release date is not illegal. Street dates are a contractual agreement between the publisher and the retailer and has absolutely nothing to do with the consumer. Consumers buying a game on a store shelf whether they are aware of the street date or not are not doing anything illegal, they are buying the game not stealing it.

The fines that retailers are said to get if said game is sold early are a scare tactic and legal reason to fire an employee who does it.

FUCK STREET DATES BRA NEVER AGAIN. i have a great spot :)

All too easy...
Why are people so pissed about him being a preorder character? Literally every game on the market now a days has preorder incentives, its probably unavoidable for NRS. And if youre on this website as a regular poster and you say youre not getting this game day 1 anyway youre just a fucking liar.

Fujin and Ermac for MK 11
This is great news about the release date, however Goro ehh I dont know...I hope he doesn't wind up being a wasted slow replacing say Ermac, Fujin, Reptile or someone.

In a way I hope this time there's no Komplete Edition or Standard, kollection and tourney editions. lol I already have to save for an Xbox One please! lol

That all being said, Goro looks cool as hell, very similar to the movie Goro in some ways.
