General/Other - Sub-Zero 3 Variations of Sub-Zero discussion

STRYKIE

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
I hope he is viable to use without a clone though.

Personally I'll play all 3, better to have your opponent learn 3 matchups rather than 1.

As long as the other styles are worth it OFC, order of importance for me.

Clone
Parry/Armour
Ice weapons
I would say the MK3 series is the only time Sub has shot up the tier list directly via clone.

(Throwing the ice clone seems too slow and a gimmick at best and doesn't even freeze the opponent)
Beggars can't be choosers. Be grateful NRS haven't risked exclusively confined him to turtling in Clone mode and then end up screwed because 9/10 characters find a way to out-turtle him like MK9.

IceNinja

Assassin
I don't know what style i'll like the best until i have played the game but i'm guessing different styles will be better depending on the match up, and the style they choose. I like the idea of being able to counter with styles rather than trying to main 2 or 3 char. Can't wait to play this! :D

Braindead

I want Kronika to step on my face
I think I'll be choosing the Parry/Ice Armor style (Anyone knows it's name?)
I like a rushdown style and Parry + Armor help me a lot there.

Well of course I am going to play the hell out of all 3 styles but I feel this style is going to suit me the best.

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems that the parry is either Cryomancer or universal.

8:33

I didnt play mk9 so this might not be what you're refering to at all when you're saying parry.
Thats interesting.... Thanks for noticing that.....
I makes me curious what is usable in "Unbreakable" (text was too small to see)

This parry is obviously the X-ray move.
He does it at 8:33 you hear the sound (the Injustice MB F3/B3 sound) and the meter is completely drained, but the parry whiffs.
He does it again at 8:46 and it doesn't whiff this time.

I really hope these variations have an effect on how high level MKX is played. I don't want to see just one version of a character played constantly while the other two just rot. That would suck. I'd love to see someone like 16 Bit switch between 3 versions of Kitana during a tournament, for example. Or Brady adapting to his opponent and switching to Cryomancer over Clone for certain matchups.

Fuck man....this game. I want it inside me.

DeathTouch

Iceman
Variation 1. Ice Weapons
Variation 2. Parry and Ice Armor causing SZ to take less damage (not sure if its on hit, chip, or both)
Variation 3. Clone

Universal specials are Ice Blast and Slide. EX slide still has armor.
So Sub Zeros Normals changes regards which variation u use ? maybe he has some of his normals altogether. Do u know ?

D7MHellcat

Frozen Earth
If there was any way to bring weapons back, this was the right one. Really like that they seem to be giving each character a weapon variation.

3 is all me though. "Look at the pretty ice sculpture! NOW EAT IT" I'll probably switch to weapons in certain matchups but all I need are clones.

NRS took the concept of skill/talent trees and implemented them into fighting game. This is brilliant. Like some of you have mentioned already, this new feature will be loved by character loyalists and even though one style will be stronger than the others, we should be hopeful that each style could help more than another in different match-ups, without needing to change your character to boot.

I am loving SZ in all his variations, I will probably learn all three. Ice Weapons is my favorite one for sure.

That's my general thought too. Probably going Parry style.

Well definitely play Clone as well.

Meh on ice weapons.

You guys are gettinga bit to far away from yourselves, even in Melty where this was done well their were still some Mons *Styles* That were better than others with some characters at a competitive level only having one real Moon to chose from *Onl;y W. Len really* and even when a character had Three Viable Moons *Kohaku* their was still one that was the best *Half*.

IrishMantis

Most humble shit talker ever!!!
IMO they should all have Clone

1 where you can throw it
2.where you can MB to make it last longer
3.Where you can also do Ice Parry

But in NRS i trust, but for for now Clone

Still waiting to see more Sub Zero footage to get more insight on this character i only saw cryomancer footage.

Is anyone worried that the excessive amount of acrobatic interactables might nullify clone traps/setups though? If the demo levels are anything to go off of, it looks like each stage has an interactable in the center that you can super jump off of, as well as the stage corners.

Maybe you can Ex-Slide them right back?
