YouTube Creators

Random, but I’ve been trying to keep up with MK1 news following a bunch of YouTubers making videos about updates. And something I keep noticing is how liberal they all seem to be with the word ‘confirmed’. It might just be me being a word nerd, but I find it a little weird when they say that yet no official publication has come out and confirmed anything.

Certain words tend to get picked up and promoted more by the sites algorithm, because people are more likely to click on titles or watch videos with strong buzz words like Confirmed. Getting to the top of a search and getting more views = more money and more future views, so any YT creator worth their salt figures out how the game is played and adjusts accordingly. Same reason people try and find thumbnails for their videos with crazy face expressions. It generates more views.

This is why I don't think anyone should fault content creators for clickbait anymore, if they don't play the game they're just going to get sent to the shadow realm by the youtube's algorithm. Until youtube changes things it will stay a tragedy of the commons.

I follow a popular chess YT (GothamChess) and he basically explained exactly why he started doing all the crazy titles and crazy thumbnails for his videos. He doesn't want to do it, but when he does the crazy stuff his videos get hundreds of thousands of more views.

I don't have a problem with content people doing clickbait tactics, although I still wish they'd actually make a quality product.

Funny how this works. If I ever see a video or article with things like "confirmed xyz" when I know it hasn't been confirmed, or those videos with the thumbnails highly edited or exaggerated, I literally never click them lol because my brain classified it as a waste of my time. I guess the people actually clicking them far outweigh me.

Same here. That includes any news article where one person "slams" another person. This timeline fucking sucks...

there are ways to do it where you can keep your moral compass intact, not lie to your viewers, make quality stuff, and still get solid views.

It's just EASIER to do it the other way,

I'll never fault anyone for getting the bag, I just make the choice to not watch those types, as I find the content hollow,

Also watch out for videos that are 8 mins or just over and based on like, a one sentence tweet from Ed boon.

Those are basically going to drag on, be pointless and a horrible waste of your time, when a video is 8 mins long it becomes eligible for mid roll adds so the creator makes more money, so they take hot fresh news, twist in some way, and ramble on pointlessly for 8+ minutes.

That being said, there are a ton of good, honest, solid MK creators out there doing great things, support em if you find em, and point your friends in their direction!,
