TarkatanDentist
Kombatant
This thread is pretty much wish-fufillment to the extreme, given that the chances of all four female ninjas coming back is incredibly low (though the chances of at least one is pretty decent).
So yeah, out of these variations of the four female ninjas, would you actually want to use any of them?
SKARLET
Variations – Spiteful, Tricky and Silk and Steel
Universal Moves: Dagger Toss (only the ground version), Up Slash, Down Slash
SPITEFUL: Costume detail – a strange red aura emanates from her body
In this variation, Skarlet is ultra-aggressive, and willing to hurt herself if it means hurting others.
Unique Moves: Blood Ball – works exactly like it does in MK9; she takes 7% damage in order to deliver a powerful projectile. There would also be an EN version this time, which has exactly the same properties except that she doesn’t lose any health for it.
Sacrificial Stab (Down, Back +1) – Skarlet stabs herself in the stomach, causing 8% self-damage. For the next 6 seconds, she deals 25% more damage, and 50% more block damage than normal. EN version causes 50% more damage, 75% more block damage.
Kut and Run (Back, Down, Forward + 3) – A high-hitting command grab which can also be used to end combos. She grabs the opponent, stabs herself, stabs them, and then flings them away. For each EN version, raw damage is increased by 5%. There are three different versions of this move:
** Kut and Run (Strength) – This is the default version. It does the most raw damage (11%), and leaves the opponent about sweep distance away.
** Kut and Run (Defense) – This is done by pressing either punch button before the final part of the grab where she flings them away. For the remainder of the round, she only takes 75% of the damage she normally would.
** Kut and Run (Resilience) – Performed by pressing either kick button before the grab ends. For the remainder of the round, she only takes 25% of the chip damage she normally would.
All three versions deal 6% damage to her on hit. Raw damage = 9% for defense and resilience.
TRICKY: Costume detail – red ribbons hang around her legs.
This variation is all about being able to get in on her opponent easily. If they try and keep her out, she will find a way around it.
Unique Moves: Blood Drop – Exactly like it was in MK9, she teleports above her opponent and lands with a powerful slash. The only difference is that she can now choose to land on the same side she was on previously by holding down back until her re-appearance at the top of the screen.
Red Dash – Functions exactly like it did in MK9 as well. Red Slide also functions identically.
Red Stealth – A different form of advancing stance. It doesn’t travel as far or as fast as Red Dash does, but it crouches very low to the ground, allowing her to move forward while avoiding most projectiles. She has access to an attack in this stance – Red Slash. By pressing 2 during Red Stealth, she will quickly slash across her opponent’s torso – hits mid, 7%, -3 on block. EN version travels twice as far, and has armor.
SILK AND STEEL: Costume detail – Two flowing detached red sleeves
This variation is focussed around her dagger-throwing skills, and keeping her opponents in check at long ranges.
Unique Moves: Air Daggers – she gains her MK9 mid-air daggers. These can be thrown either far or close, just like in MK9. Furthermore, her ground daggers do 1% extra damage each compared to her other variations.
Dagger Kick (Back, Forward + 4) – Skarlet kicks her dagger in a boomerang-type motion. Faster than her regular daggers, and slightly more damaging (7%), but only hits half-screen. Basically, think Wonder Woman’s tiara from Injustice. EN version grants the dagger a return hitbox, which does 6% and knocks the opponent down.
Upwards Dagger Kick (Down, Back + 4) – Similar, except she kicks it at a 45 degree angle. Likewise, it has an EN version where the return hit knocks them directly into the ground in front of Skarlet. Damage is identical.
JADE
Variations – Edenian Spirit, Staff Specialist and Razor Sharp
Universal Moves: Shadow Flash, Shadow Kick, Boomerang (only the regular version)
Note: all boomerang moves would have 8 frames less start-up than in MK9
EDENIAN SPIRIT: Costume detail – a green fan (callback to MKII Jade!) rests on her back
Edenian Spirit is all about fucking up zoning. When it comes to claiming space, she is the one in control.
Unique Moves: Vanishing Winds (Down, Up + 4) – Inspired by her teleport from previous games, this would be something of a cross between Raven’s and Zatanna’s teleport. Like Zatanna, she could choose to teleport in front of her opponent, behind them, away from them, or to stay in place. In front of the opponent is default – press forward for behind, back for away, and down for staying in place. Like Raven, she can do the teleport in mid-air. It takes 10 frames to start up, and has 25 frames recovery. EN version starts up in 1 frame and has 7 frames recovery.
Shadow Flash – has numerous improvements over the regular universal version. Not only do ALL projectiles pass right through it (none of that Kenshi-style bullshit this time!), but they actually replenish her health equivalent to half the damage the projectile would’ve dealt. EN version increases the awesomeness by making her only take a third of the normal damage during her constant armored state.
STAFF SPECIALIST: Costume detail – a shorter staff appears on her back
Staff Specialist, as the name suggests, features a refined and expanded set of staff-based moves for Jade (very similar to MK9 Jade).
Unique Moves: Staff Smash – just like it was in MK9, except for being a few frames faster, and +6 on block.
Staff Slam – again, like it was in MK9, only slightly more damaging. Furthermore, the EN version is revamped – now she slams them twice instead of three times, but the second slam pops them back up into the air, allowing for extended combos.
Staff Sweep (Down, Back +3) – Jade crouches and sweeps low across the ground, knocking her opponent off their feet. 22 frames start-up, 7% damage and -11 on block, but has lots of range. EN version has a second upwards hit which acts as a combo starter – 6%, 5% damage, still -11 on block.
Staff normals – every normal that involves Jade’s staff does 33.3% more damage than normal.
RAZOR SHARP: Costume detail – sharp razors along Jade’s gloves
This variation allows for full-screen havoc, and the ability to fight well at almost any range.
Unique Moves: Boomerang Down - Like MK9, Jade throws a boomerang at her opponent’s feet.
Boomerang Up - Again, just like MK9, an anti-air boomerang.
Razorang normals – Jade gains a handful of fast, close-range normals intended to knock opponents away quickly. These would include f14 (9 frame high slash followed by a far-hitting kick – 3%, 7%), 42 (her standard knee, followed by a Catherine wheel-esque movement with her razorang – three hits of 2%, safe) and 112 (jab into fast overhead into third stab that knocks far away – 3%, 3%, 6%).
MILEENA
Variations - Animalistic, Sai-Kotik and True Leader
Universal Moves: Sai Throw (including the air version), Roll
ANIMALISTIC: Costume detail – she wears a sabretooth necklace
This variation is mostly like how she was in MK9, with one key extra move…
Unique Moves: Leaping Neckbite – same as MK9, with one small difference. Her ‘sai stab’ version (the version she did when a sai is in her opponent’s back) is now the version she does all the time, meaning it now always does 11% damage, not 7%. EN version functions likewise.
Teleport Drop – identical to MK9 version in every way.
Vicious Uppercut (Down, Forward + 2) – A Shoryuken-esque move where Mileena jumps high into the air at a roughly 60 degree angle, slashing with her sai. 10 frame start-up, 8% damage, very unsafe on block. EN version has full invincibility for the first 10 frames.
SAI-KOTIK: Costume detail – a ‘sake’ bottle around her waist
In this variation, Mileena can drink from her bottle, which actually contains Edenian blood. This makes her attacks stronger, but also makes HER more vulnerable to damage.
Unique Moves: Take A Drink (Down, Back + 3) – Mileena takes a gulp of delicious Edenian blood. For the next six seconds, Mileena’s attack power (which includes chip damage) is buffed by a certain amount. The downside is that you have to spend six seconds after THAT taking extra damage than normal. You can hold 3 to make the attack buff more intense… but the cooldown will see you be even more vulnerable too.
tl;dr It’s like Bane’s venom, except a tad less ridiculous. Here’s how each level works:
Level 1: Minimum duration for move completion is 40 frames – this grants Mileena a damage buff of 20%. During cooldown, she takes 25% more damage.
Level 2: Must charge so that the move lasts at least 60 frames (with a slight purple hue to signify this). Damage buff of 33.3%. During cooldown, she takes 40% more damage.
Level 3: Make it last 90 frames and you get the full 50% buff. During cooldown she takes 66.6% more damage.
Stab You Senseless (Down, Forward + 1) – Baraka’s Chop Chop meets Aquaman’s Trident Rush meets Mileena’s MK2 fatality. Three stabs to the opponent’s mid-section, 3% each, 12 frame start-up, last hit -5 on block. EN version is identical save that it involves five stabs rather than three.
TRUE LEADER: Costume detail – her classic veil which disguises her mouth
In this version, Mileena can summon a royal Tarkatan servant to attack on her behalf, making her a good zoner. (tl;dr she becomes a less ridiculous Kenshi)
Unique Moves: Slash from Above (Back, Down +1) – Mileena summons her servant to descend and slash downwards directly in front of her opponent. 7% damage, hits overhead, leaves opponent standing, -14 on block. EN versions sees the servant do a slashing uppercut afterwards for an extra 6%.
Blade Charge (Down, Forward + 2) – Just like Baraka’s Blade Charge… except that Mileena is getting someone else to do it. 8% damage, -12 on block, hits up to a little over a third of the way across the screen. EN version grants her armour, and does 10%.
Royal Pain (Back, Down, Forward + 4) – A high-hitting command grab. It begins with her servant stabbing upwards at around neck level after which point Mileena kicks them three times, the last kick sending them across the screen. Does 10% damage. EN version hits mid (still a command grab though).
Note: For all intents and purposes, her minion is a projectile in Slash from Above and Blade Charge, so Jade’s Shadow Flash will still work on them.
KITANA
Variations – Fan-Tic Frenzy, Trick N Kick, Poisoned Chalice
Universal Moves: Fan Toss, Square Wave, Pretty Kick
FAN-TIC FRENZY: Costume detail – Fancy, MK2 Kitana-esque opera gloves
This version is most similar to MK9 Kitana, focussing on her fan techniques
Unique Moves: Upraise – Same deal as in MK9, except that it now does a token 1% damage on block.
Cutting Fan – Again, you’ll know this from MK9.
Low Fan (Back, Back + 4) – Kitana borrows from KL’s low hat as she effectively bowls her fan across the floor. 7% damage, travels pretty slowly, unsafe at close range. EN version travels much faster, and puts her opponent into a combo-enabling stun on hit.
TRICK ‘N KICK: Costume detail – bladed boots
This Kitana takes a leaf out of the Chun-Li school of thought and focusses on the kicks. This allows her to put her opponent straight into a confusing 50/50 once she gets in.
Unique Moves: Pretty Kick – Unlike the universal version, THIS Pretty Kick has one huge difference – it hits mid rather than high.
Fake-Out Sweep – This is Kitana’s Fake-Out Kick from MK9. However, in order to make it actually true to its name, you now have the option of cancelling it by pressing block before the start-up finishes. It also now has an EN version, which is much faster and has armour, such that it can’t be blocked on reaction.
Fake-Out Heel Smash (Down, Forward + 3) – The initial start-up is almost identical to Fake-Out Sweep… except that instead she goes for an overhead axle kick. 9%, 0 on block, +5 on hit, same start-up. This move can also be cancelled by pressing block. The EN version has armour.
f4 strings – Kitana gains access to her f4 strings from MK9, and much like this version’s Pretty Kick, f4 now hits mid.
POISONED CHALICE: Costume detail – eerie blue slime covering parts of her body
Kitana is imbued with a mysterious poison which she can pass onto her opponents (it doesn’t affect her because she’s undead – yay!)
Unique Moves: Pick Your Poison (Back, Forward +2) – A mid blockable grab – if it connects, Kitana punches her opponent, then fills them with poison. The first hit does 3%, and the poison does 7%. Critically, the poison 7% isn’t affected by scaling, making this move a good combo ender. It also leaves them standing with Kitana at +10. The EN version has three hits at the start (3%, 2%, 2%), and the poison does 9% (again, unscaled).
Poison Shield (Back, Forward +3) – Kitana builds up poison within herself and uses it to defend herself from attacks. The full animation is 50 frames. For the next seven seconds, she will only take 66.6% of the damage she normally would. After it runs out, she has to wait five seconds before she can use the move again.
Fan normals – any normal that involves hitting the opponent with her fan does 2% extra damage, and 1% extra chip damage.
I don't really have anything witty to end this post with, so I may as well go with 'KITANA FOR MKX!'
So yeah, out of these variations of the four female ninjas, would you actually want to use any of them?
