Lt. Boxy Angelman
I WILL EAT THIS GAME
Today will be my first day, ever in the history of ever, that I set foot in the arena of Killer Instinct.
And while I'm confident that, with enough practice and perseverance, I'll be able to wrap my mind and hands around the physics and logistics of the KI metagame, my biggest question looming on the horizon becomes...
...who do I main?
Now, there's no one between the two seasons that I couldn't potentially see myself falling in league with. The wonder of KI is that literally EVERYONE has their brand of appeal and potential. But that's also what makes this so difficult...I have no earthly idea whose battle plan would suit me best.
Now over the course of my history between MK9, IGAU and MKX, I've had five devoted and focused mains: Cyrax and Sub-Zero in MK9, Deathstroke and Doomsday in IGAU, and Kenshi in MKX. All of them have one common bond: a focus in their builds around space control. Rather than applying a PL-style mile-a-minute rushdown attack, or an M2dave-style projectile-based keepaway chase, my focus and comfort has always been pace dictation and making my opponents respect my character's ability to bend the space between us to my will. However, there are some characters in this game I find near irresistable regardless of whether or not they'll fit my typical style of battle.
I've narrowed it down to five.
-KAN-RA. This mummified monster seems to be as close to the gun and run style of Slade and Sub-Zero as this game can provide. Easily my favorite character in KI to watch, with the exception of...
-THUNDER. My first experience ever involving KI was at NEC, watching Rico Suave going absolutely savage in casuals with the Chief. Dear gods, dat stompy stomp command grab doe. Has been my #1 source of KI hype ever since.
-HISAKO. I have a deep and profound fear of and love for Samara Morgan from The Ring. 'Nuff said. When she dropped, that was when I knew for certain I was going to pick this game up someday.
-CINDER. The man sounds like Handsome Jack from Borderlands and he's made out of fire. I don't see how this can't end positively.
-FULGORE. Easily my favorite KI character since I was a little bitty Box. Deterred only by the fact that he seems like a pretty complicated fellow.
Advice, KI loyalists?
