What does it take for a player to get sponsored?

I$AAC

Kombatant
Without turning this into an essay, I wanted to ask a question to the people that are sponsors and/or sponsored players...

This might come off as a bit cocky, but I consider myself to be a talented player in mk9 and other fighting games. However, I still feel that I have some room for growth/improvement. My biggest obstacle is that I mostly can't afford to travel across the country to majors, which to my understanding the sponsors would/should take care of it.

So how does one get sponsored? What do the sponsors look for? Result? Personality? I speak for not only myself, but for any player that is looking for a sponsor.

There aren't many "true" sponsored players in FGC or gaming in general, I think that word is grossly misused.

But, you'd have to be super good, well mannered, have a fanbase, etc...

Just a slightly above average player.....
I don't see the Fgc being big enough right now to have so many sponsorships that allow people to get paid and also travel like sc2 for example. At least not yet. Give it 2-3 years.
