Last year at KIT 2015, Mario Kart 8 made a surprising showing that induced hype when @Vandy announced it.
Having 31 entrants, the hype for the finals was real and our very own @Kitana Prime took it.

In hopes to maintain a tradition of vehicle related games making it into the lineup, we should really consider Rocket League.

Rocket League is a physics-based vehicle football (soccer) game that has garnered a lot of attention. Since it's release just a few weeks ago, even ESL has taken to it and has been holding tourneys for it. It is clear that many in the FGC enjoy this game because I see half of my friend's list playing it. This game is fun and adds a certain hype factor along with teamwork that we typically don't necessarily see from the FGC.

Furthermore, the announcement that Rocket League will be coming to Xbox One will bring even more attention to the tournament and KIT2016.

Kumite!
I will admit I know absolutely nothing about this game, which community generally plays it to predict turnout, who would run it for me, how I would secure systems for it, how I would schedule it or make room for it, or how long games take.

Basically everything I generally need to know to include a game.

I think just about everybody plays it casually, honestly. It wouldn't be hard to run since it'll probably be 2v2 or something. I can bring my PS4 too and I'm sure others will be willing. Games take 5 minutes..so first to 2 wouldn't take very long at all.

This is a soccer game so it should be ran as it. Just like the FIFA World Cup. Groups of 4 teams where every team plays each other ONCE only. 3 points per win, 1 point per draw, and 0 points per loss.(This means EVERYONE has 3 games guaranteed during groups, win or lose) Out of those 4 , only 2 teams will qualify to the next stage. Then with all the teams that made it out of the groups/pools, there should now be brackets. Two brackets one coming from the left, the other one from the right, all the way to Grand Finals. Single elimination. Also, don't forget the number of scored goals or allowed count towards getting out of groups in case of 2 teams being tied on their group leaderboard. Here's an example for those that don't know much about soccer tournaments.

I would love to run this myself, but the chances of me going to KIT are slim. I don't count myself out just yet though :D

the point system would be interesting but if there isn't that many teams it wouldn't make sense

Yeah, it wouldn't. But if MKX keeps getting hundreds of players, and they all sign up for Rocket League(I would assume most would), you would have a larger competition than the World Cup itself(8 groups, 32 teams).

with teams of 2 I could see around 30 teams or so joining...that'd be 60 people

does this game involve a lot of skill? haven't played, only watched. From just watching it, trying to understand where the difficulty comes in

The game is hard as fuck bro. All physics based and the controlling isn't easy to master.Centering for shot takes perfect set up and all sorts

Got it, I guess you really can't judge how hard a game is from watching it alone. I'd have to play it and scrub out for awhile to actually realize that lol
