Tournaments in Calgary?

there was a tournament in edmonton on the weekend, mk9 had about 16 people, we could have used more.

i placed second, with my training partner coming first haha.

i'm from regina, sask.

canada cup in november, however, mk9 is not *officially* a part of this tournament yet, but if blazblue can be, i don't see why mk9 wouldn't be.

its calgarys biggest major, had daigo, mago, jwong, mike ross, and gootecks there.

this year they're trying to bring tokido and mago, not sure who else.

last year was a good time, hopefully this year will be funner.

tourneys are listed in canada matchmaking on SRK.

I really hope it's at canada cup, I think there are players around that would be into but it's hard to find people that wanna get down with the MK in calgary. I've been looking. Found the dudes that go to Tubby Dog every wed and have a HQ set up for Street fighter and MVC3 training for Evo and other such things. They seem like totally awesome guys, I just need to get some time off work to go and meet them. Couple of them said the would roll some MK with me, but I've been brushing up the SF chops just because I want to play some fighters!
I hope Edmonton has another tourny like they just did, couldn't make that one because of work :( I wanna see were i stack up because Online is so hit and miss.

eeeeh, the tournament in edmonton was kinda meh. we had to run our own brackets after about 2 rounds... it was kinda messy.

as for the comp, it was also kind of messy. i think i can name 2 players who knew what they were doing, and then me, and my 2 buddies. me and the sask crew came 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

the brackets lasted like 10 hours, and it was a 16 man tourney. one top player who will not be named made me wait damn near 3 hours when i had to play him in singles AND teams.

That sucks, woulda been something though, all the real action seems to happen out east or even vancouver seems to have a good MK scene. I'm actually from Saskatchewan born and raised, thats cool that you guys traveled for that. Not much of a scene in regina for MK??

theres about 5 of us that play MK a lot, then theres a few other people that dont play. but yeah, the 3 of us that play mk consistantly finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the tourney though haha. oh, and top 2 in teams

but i must say, it would have been nice to have more comp. it got the same amount as blazblue roughly, and there was a sektor player and a kung lao player that seemed to know what they were doing, id still like to see how i'd do at a bigger tournament somewhere.

SSF4 is so unbalanced and MVC3 is just to much of a flash show for me, so yah It would be great if Mortal Kombat were a little bigger around these parts. I've risen above the skill lvl of the people I play with offline, and online I hold my own but I know records don't mean crap online. If I hear of anything I'll post here for sure man.

Thanks for the tips guys. I probably wouldn't be able to make it out there until late August, early September. Do you guys do any fall tournaments up there?
