tournaments, audio + headphones?

guys, at tournaments, how do you feel about game's audio? i mean, sometimes it is not possible to turn volume on, but TV is muted, which gives most people, including me trouble. Because i cant play without sound.
1) What should i do in this case? Should i connect my headphones to TV or to ps3?
2) And is it possible to connect simple headphones to ps3, or does ps3 require some "spashaaaal" ps3 headphones?
3) Also, what if two people want to connect headphones but TV has only one jack?

You should be able to hear the tv when your at a tournament. I think it should be a standard.

i know, and i agree with that, but try telling that to pigheaded sponsors...
