Tournament Format

Disclaimer: This is just my theory. I know it won't be the true tourney standard.

Let's talk about tourney format. Would it be like this:

Traditional 2/3 or 3/5 sets
Loser of a game gets to change variation while winner keeps their variation
or
Loser of a game changes character and winner gets to change their variation

Stage interactables are turned off.

Thoughts?

1. see how Long rounds go but probably 2/3

2. has been discussed to death and Needs to be tested multiple ways

3. interactables on, no reason to turn off and there was a thread where 80% voted "on"

2/3 with all of the finals 3/5 as the standard has been for MK9 and a lot of other games.

Winner gets locked character and variation.

Either random stage and interactables off or loser picks stage interactables on. This one has been one of the more contentious (up there with variation lock). Honestly, because interactables are not always equally spaced etc. and may grant an initial positional advantage to one user or another, they should either be off or the loser has to pick. When it's random, it becomes a factor that neither player has control over and like I said may grant initial positional advantage to one player over the other for no reason whatsoever. If we do want them on, then it means granting the losing player the ability to choose stage because then it's a controlled environment kind of thing like (switching your character) to regain an advantage after a loss. And interactables factor into that choice.

I still theorise that variation lock for the winner, when the loser switches characters, might be a bad idea, cause that'll just cause people to learn specific variations over many characters just to counter other characters variations, rather than being able to use all of a (single) characters variations to their maximum potential.

However, we just dont know till release.

@Qwark confirmed that you can punish all interactables, no sense in turning them off.

On the lock thing we won't know until release.

Some characters get drastical changes others minimum, others playstyle changes others strengthens a particular part of their meta.

So i'm still skeptical about setting anything in stone, if every variation handed himself without overwhelming MUs i can see the full lock as a viable option.
