After almost being sidelined due to lack of a ride, Orochi found his way to last weekend's event and made off with a double victory -- scoring wins in both KI and Injustice!
In the wake of the fifth installment of Virginia's Top of the Food Chain 5 we crown a new champion and see the shape of the future. We didn't see big numbers like in the previous tournaments, but man was there some great competition. In Injustice we saw two goliath Green Lanterns battle it out for the crown of being the top of the food chain. Orochi and Blackula, even though they play the same character, have opposite play styles -- Orochi being the tech-savvy setup mad man, while Blackula resorts to more solid simple play. In an exciting Winners and Grand Finals, Orochi eventually won both 3-2 in very tight matches. For Green lantern players, this is a must watch.
The rest of the tournament saw a washed up Ares player get bodied; and in shades of the great Blind Ducky, fan favorite Zappa had a great showing. Dark Steel remains the Hawkgirl of the world, and Sidthehaze lost stock after proclaiming he'd win the tournament (he also got bodied 5-0 free in a ft5 with Mr Aquaman after hours). One of the most exciting matches I have personally witnessed was Dark Steel's performance against Blackula in losers finals. Dark was a true underdog and made the best out of the situation -- look for him to continue making strides in IGAU.
In Killer Instinct, Orochi came in with overwhelming power, using his ice alien Glacius. In the tournament we saw Mr Aquaman's Thunder collect wins over locals Blackula and Srryimwhte. Also, Orochi took out 3rd placer Aston Martin using a viscous Sabrewulf. In a showdown in Winners and Grand finals, Mr Aquaman was overrun due to a lack of MU knowledge as Orochi won with a convincing 3-0 victory. KI was run off stream; but thanks to General Roxus, a few matches were recorded. We saw great understanding of the game in its early phases, with breakers, counter breakers, and shadow counters all in play. Look for great excitement and players coming from our area in KI, just as with IGAU.
