With the confirmation of Microsoft's Iron Galaxy-developed KI3 Season 2 at E3, fan-favorite brawler TJ Combo was announced as the new season's first playable character. Although we were only given a taste of TJ via a small teaser trailer, Maximilian has been able to obtain some actual gameplay footage from the developer, and has spent a good deal of time trying him out at the exhibition.

In the video, Max breaks TJ down, answers questions, and goes into detail about how the new character plays and works, while the newly-acquired footage plays in the background.

Covered:
-Multiple costumes
-Playstyle
-Special moves
-New "Recapture" gameplay mechanic (allows you to restand opponents from a juggle state in order to claim full damage from the combo meter)
-Power Line cancels
-TJ's "Auto Barrage" combo ender
-Instinct mode speed boost (gives better recovery on moves)

Note: TJ is still in Alpha and this is very early footage; so this should not be considered polished gameplay by any means.

Imo this character looks awesome so far (he's still in Alpha). Kudos to IG for coming through on their first shot.

The axe that clears the forest
Just watched this on lunch. In my opinion, he still needs lots of work.

- Like Max said, his auto doubles are WAY too slow. There would be no reason to ever do a heavy being as how slow and telegraphed they are, aside from baiting a breaker to counter break.

- His design is really boring compared to the rest of the cast and almost doesn't even look like he fits in the game. It makes me miss Double Helix already

Having said that, he has a lot of promise and looks incredibly fun to play. I hope they continue to work on him and make him what he should be. He's always been my favorite character from KI and I'm looking forward to playing him.

TJ's toolset looks cheap as fuck lmao.

He gets up in your shit for free by crossing the screen with armor and then can mix you up and everything leads to full combo because of reground, including the uppercut and command grabs. He even comes back to life for free to try and steal your victory away; you can't even play around it like Phoenix by snap-in killing her before full bar.

Shit is nuts.

What is going on guys, Ya Boi Zyphox here.
reminds me of flash, if he gets faster auto doubles, i will finally pick up KI and use someone, everyone else doesn't fit my style, he has RMS but with armor? SP but recaptures you for a better combo state? GG no re.

Speed boost instinct? is someone at iron galaxy trying to get me into KI? can't wait he is the only reason i would try KI.

and....

He definitely does not fit. Day 1 Jago and Sabre were way better meshed than he is. I know they were hype to show him, but between how little everyone cares thanks to the Cinder hint and his performance so far it almost wasn't worth it. Here's hoping IG develops that DH touch by character 3.

Also, I'm guessing the auto double slowness has to do with that weird damage ender he has. If they speed it up to normal speed it might be a huge execution barrier.

I don't know what the issue is... I think he looks extremely fun to play and by the time comes around for Season 2 to be released, he'll fit in just fine.

I was also kinda against Recapture when I first heard about it but after seeing this, my mind is starting to change. I kinda hope it's a Combo only thing though. I just can't see Spinal or jumping up and doing a Recapture. Unless he call that big skeleton hand out of the ground to slam the opponent back down...... omg that would awesome.

And I'm not going to make too many judgements on his auto-double speed right now. They said he's only 6 weeks old and I can see props and cons for both sides.

I don't know, I think he looks sweet at this early stage
