Some of you might still be unaware that MK has system a bit similar to the way of Street Fighter of doing combos.
Basically it should look similar to this:
The link system in Street fighter, allows you to connect an attack in the opponent when he already got hit by another normal or special move, basically while the opponent is on hit stun if you have an attack that matches that frame advantage or faster it will count as a hit they can't block and add it to the combo counter. To this ability of connecting a normal after connecting a special or vise versa is called LINK.
MK9 had this system with rain, but in MKX this system is taken further.
In MKX, the link system works on similar matter but there are a few rules.
1: To connect a normal with another normal, the first normal has to be run cancelled off of a chargeable special.
2: The linking attack has to be less frame startups than the frame advantage the character gain from connecting the first hit.
3: The character can only run cancel once on every combo, unless you're johnny cage who is a super star that can run cancel 2 or 3 times.
4: There are special moves who allows to link from special to normals, just like street fighter, or it cost a bar or it it takes longer to re-use the same special in the same combo, or there is timer in such special that disables the helper like in sonya's case.
5: There are characters that can use both links and run cancel links in the same combo.
Here are some examples using the link system in MKX, lets start off with specials that can connect normals:
In this example, Check cancels sonya drone, and gives him enough frame advantage to link a standing 1, and continue to loop that normal until the drone times out on his own. The link is pretty thigh, i dunno exactly how much frames this link is, but feels tighter than scorpion's
Example 2:
In this example, Scorpion flame aura which is +13 on hit, allowed him to connect a standing 2, B3, F3, or standing 1 on a very thigh window to continue combos, the second time he tries to link he actually dropped the combo by missing the link window.
Example 3: Lets now see some run canceling links
For this example, i decided to show you raiden because in his Thunder God variation he can restand characters into run cancel to continue comboing them on the ground, further on, you can see displacer using the second link system which allows one to use a special into a normal before the frame advantage is over, compliments to @TONY-T
