Ninjas > Special Forces
It’s Wednesday night, and you know what time that is… It’s time for CFAS Wednesday Night Strikes! With a nice turnout of 12 entrants, this was a night full of down-to-the wire matches, crazy comebacks, and unexpected victories. A reminder of last week’s top 3:
1st. Qhaos (Mournful/Assassin Kitana)
2nd. Lith (Pumped Up Jax, Vicious Ferra/Torr)
3rd. xxDark (Buzzsaw/Tempest Kung Lao, Covert Ops Sonya)
A new champion would be crowned tonight by the name of The Magician! Magician absolutely stomped his way through tonight’s tournament, winning the whole enchilada from the winner’s side. Grand finals came down to him vs. last week’s champion, Qhaos. Results can be seen below, followed by highlights of the night and a recollection of grand finals:
1. The Magician (Kobu Jutsu Tanya)
2. Qhaos (Mournful/Assassin Kitana)
3. XxDark_Assassin (Buzzsaw/Tempest Kung Lao, Grandmaster Sub Zero)
4. Witness (Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang)
5. FlipinFlava (Venomous D’Vorah)
5. RIP (Piercing Mileena)
7. Vaiist (Master of Storms Raiden)
7. Gito (Hellfire/Ninjitsu Scorpion)
9. Lith (Pumped Up Jax, Vicious Ferra/Torr)
9. Krucifix (A-List Johnny Cage)
9. Take$$$ (Swarm Queen D’Vorah, Aftershock Tremor)
9. Player One (Noxious Reptile)
Challonge bracket : http://challonge.com/Mkx81315
HIGHLIGHTS!
- Witness Vs. Take$$$ in the winner’s bracket was an excruciatingly close set. Both players looked extremely good with their cancels tonight (Liu’s fire and D’s bugs). This set would come down to the last bit of health in the last round of the last match for both players, but Witness would come out on top.
- The same would happen with Lith and RIP, except in the loser’s bracket. After 3 close matches, RIP’s impressive piercing Mileena would just barely chip out Lith’s Vicious Ferra/Torr, giving RIP the victory over last week’s 2nd place kontender!
- FlipinFlava was on fire tonight. After knocking Krucifix out of the tournament with a Brutality, he and Gito would go on to have the hypest moment of the night in loser’s bracket. Gito tried to get cute, and use FlipinFlava’s specialty, a late round X-ray, against him. The X-ray landed, but Flava had just enough life to hang in there. At the very last pixel of each player’s health, a simultaneous D’Vorah F4 and Scorpion D4 would cause an ever-elusive match extension! What would happen? Immediate. FlipinFlava. Special. The MOMENT the word’s “Match Extended” appeared, Flava would activate his X-ray to immediately end the match! This was so hype, we all felt the need to record it and share:
- One match extension per night is rare, right? You’d NEVER see two in one night, right? Wrong! Magician would take winner’s finals from the reigning champ, Qhaos, with a match extension in the last round! What are the odds?
And so it would come to this: Grand finals. A showdown between the skilled young warrior with the Super Saiyan hairdo, The Magician, and the super focused fan and glaive throwing machine: Qhaos.
GRAND FINALS: The Magician(W) (Kobu Jutsu Tanya) Vs. Qhaos(L) (Assassin Kitana)
- Both players looked strong in the first match, weaving in and out of each other’s projectiles. Magician applied Tanya’s typical Tonfa pressure, while Qhaos played keep away with those deadly fans. At one point, Qhaos landed a mind blowing 52% one bar kombo with Kitana that had onlookers ooh-ing and ahh-ing, but it would not be enough to stop the unrelenting pressure of a high level Tanya player. Magician went up 1-0.
- Magician would carry this momentum into match 2. A dominating couple of rounds would bring the score to 2-0.
- Qhaos returned to his zone at the beginning of the third match. He took Magician by surprise, winning the first round with a flurry of offense leading to a flawless victory! Not one to be shaken, though, Magician recomposed himself and played his Tanya game to perfection to take two more rounds and win the night!
Your winner, and new CFAS champion, The Magician! Thanks for reading, and we hope you’ll join us again next week for another thrilling night of CFAS (Console Fighter All Stars) Wednesday Night Strikes.
