Supposed "Top of the line monitors"@ FR17

Ok, I'm gonna be as a level-headed and adult about this as possible.

First off, I trained. Hard. Really hard. I wanted to win. No more "not making it out of pools" or "hoping the second match will go better". My heart was seriously set on making Top 8 at Final Round. To finally make a name for myself. If any of you know me, you know how I roll.

My first match vs Showtime led me to believe that this wasn't going to happen. As anyone knows, I main Killer Frost. We all know she has slightly higher execution status than other characters.

During button check, I tested basic BnB combos, mostly into slide. After slide, I would attempt U3, but would I get U3? Nope. A Jump. Every. Single. Time. I said to myself. "Well maybe it's a fluke, I'll land it when the time comes".

Still nope. During a random match, anytime I got knocked down and wanted to wakeup with slide, it would never come out or come out 2-3secs later. Even doing normals felt sluggish. Like molasses flowing over a 56k modem.

The only win I achieved was from a lame dagger chucking and Iceberg chipout, which wasn't gonna work against everyone later on. Even then it felt Like Flash's trait was in full effect.

Even during casuals when I use Bane I know for a fact his standing 1 doesn't startup that slow.

I have heard from other players that they have experienced the same issue.

Below is a short combo vid I did on the HDTV's provided in the hotel's room.

As you can see, I land U3 after slide perfectly. None of the combos felt sluggish nor did they feel slow on startup.

I normally don't post anything on this website because of it's high ban rate, but I just some insight as to what happened.

Do you play on a lagless monitor at home? The tvs in the hotel room have a significant amount of input lag. The thing I noticed is that lagless monitors almost feel "laggy" to people who aren't used to them. My suggestion would be to invest in a set up you would find at a tournament, not only for home, but to bring with you to tournaments for cAsuals in your room. It helps. A lot.

P.s. I was doing combos fine, I just lost cause I suck

Have you ever played on ASUS monitors before? Cause what it sounds like is that you never have and werent used to what it feels like to play offline on one. Its way different.
Yes I have, actually. So much it even brought up the painful memory of my matches @ TFC last year.
I'm no online warrior if that's what your saying, You can ask @AK Pig Of The Hut or @AK L0rdoftheFLY they know I attend tournies when I can.

Timing from a hotel HDTV to an ASUS is significantly different.
Exactly Potatoman.
I've always been under the impression that these ASUS monitors were supposed to be better than your "standard" HDTVs.

I'm the opposite when it comes to Frost combos, I can't hit em on my 32' Bravia but I can nail em on my Asus. And I can't for the life of me hit them online.

You were hitting up3 to early which you can do on an HDTV or Online, but you have to hit it a little later on the Asus or you get the jump.

How was your timing off the F3? I find that one messes me up the most when I'm switching between Asus and TV

attending tournies when you can doesn't mean shit, i go to the break everytime i have the chance and if i miss even one week i have to get myself used to offline again( this was before WB since now i don't play online at all anymore). i also have 3 asus monitors now (VH236h models) and STILL have to get used to offline timing, my point is you are probably used to lag and are hitting buttons to fast, slow your roll and get some warm up games before playing at tournaments as much as possible :)

Sadly, monitors can make a huge difference in timing combos etc. As far as the online to offline thing goes, the online for IGAU cannot be THAT bad. I haven't played the game online in several months, but I don't remember it being that drastic. In SF, I time my combos exactly the same offline as online. I don't have problems with it either. SFIV is nearly 5 years old. I would imagine a new game like IGAU has a better netcode.

So what's the best monitor to buy in terms of model for tournaments n size (I know it's Asus), I'm about to buy one also I need to stop playing on my HP one. Same thing happened to me in KI I couldn't get any casuals (because there were no setups at all) so my timing was way off the whole tournament.

If memory serves, VH236H? Regardless check out www.displaylag.com and go for anything with 36ms of input lag or less and you are playing on EVO standard or better.

OP, you can't blame your lack of experience with low input lag monitors on Kombat Network. Never play on an HDTV, unless it's a Sony XBR with 22ms input lag (this actually exists somehow)

The ASUS monitor has become the DEFACTO standard among the FGC. It has 10ms of input lag (which is really low), and is relatively cheap.

That being said, its FAR from "top of the line". Both KDZ and I can give you examples of other monitors which have even less input lag, and have MUCH higher image fidelity and color quality. However, they tend to be double the price... good speakers too.

This is the monitor I recommend:

Its an IPS monitor, not a crap TN-film monitor like the ASUS; so the picture quality is outstanding. Decent built in speakers as well. Also, rates at about 8ms of input lag.

Don't spend that much dude. Just get an asus because then you can know for sure that it won't feel different.

That monitor has 6ms response time, not input lag. They are very different. Do you have documentation on what the input lag of that monitor is tested to be, if it exists at all?

Could the monitor lag be why I feel MK is sluggish when I play on PS3? I am used to playing it on my laptop. Could it be that my laptop screen has a much smaller input lag so when I play on PS3 the regular TVs cause me to drop my inputs?
I always thought it might be the ps2-ps3 converter but when @Frostbarrier uses my pad he doesn't feel any lag (he plays on PS3 not PC)...
