Suggestions for Improving Practice Mode

Galactic Geek

Losing is learning; winning is succeeding.
I thought I'd create a thread with suggestions from the community for NRS on how we think they can improve their practice mode so new players to IGAU can learn how to play the game more effectively.

Feel free to offer ANY suggestions that you think could improve training mode.

I'll add more as you guys make suggestions & add them here for everyone to see.

Galactic Geek:
1) More accurate frame data.
2) damage in frame data shows damage per hit + total damage for basic combos & other multiple-hitting attacks.
3) Have access to normal attacks, basic combos, & special move variants in counter-attack section under AI options.
4) Ability to switch stages mid or post-match (could even be used in main game along with character selection option).
6) Ability to switch position of characters on the fly to stand in front of interactables, similar to the left & rights sides of the stage.

RedRaptor10:
7) More robust, detailed, & interactive tutorial mode.
8) Audio cues for learning combo-timing.

trevor91:
9) Player-based AI (similar to Forza Motorsport 5's Drivatars).

RYX:
10) Less lag during online practice mode.

Rathalos:
11) Ability to save settings upon exit so they can auto-start upon next visit to practice mode.

Red Reaper & K.O.E_18:
12) More robust recording mode.

Galactic Geek:
13) Allow for more than 6 tagged moves.
14) Allow for tagging of moves in online practice for both players to see & use.

OmegaK:
15) Hitbox/hurtbox data (e.g., visual representation).
16) Audio/visual cues for punishment windows and blockstun.

DarkPage:
17) Allow online practice mode for only 1 player.
18) Then allow for online players to "join" online practice mode mid-session (with open, friends only, & invite only settings).
19) Have game-speed adjustment settings that mirrors various kinds of online lag.

Eddy Wang:
20) Have setup slots in record mode that can be played back-to-back at different frequencies, even randomly.

Play Monster Hunter!
Settings to save even after I exit, so when I come back to it, everything is how I left it.

RedRaptor10,
Thanks for the KI tutorial video. Having something as deep as that for IGAU tutorial would be great to have. I particularly like the audio cues to help with the timing of combos. There are so many friends of mine who can't seem to nail the timing of combos & give up as a result. This would likely keep that from happening.

trevor91,
Your idea makes me think of something similar to Forza Motorsport 5's Drivatars. It would be nice if the game recorded how you fought & then other people could use an AI version of you to practice against. For example, I love playing Lex; I bet I could learn a lot if I fought against an AI that imitates @Rev0lver's fighting style.

RYX,
I haven't had that issue. Maybe if you installed your game to the HDD (if on Xbox 360)?

Rathalos,
This is a good idea for players who stick to 1 character or who want to practice against the same opponent as last time. Could certainly be a time saver.

Red Reaper,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but IGAU already has a record feature doesn't it (although it certainly could be made easier to use)? Also, good advice on throws from the video.

It's not the same. Look at where I time stamped it at... You kan record multiple patterns and then adjust the frequency. This helps for defense training..

In particular this helps people block set ups and to get past characters like Doomsday and Solomon Grundy. There's still people that kan't block Earthshaker and I sometimes have my off times as well. The timing on Earthshaker changes depending on the strings. Etc...

To this day Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown has the BEST training mode I've ever had the privilege to use.

However, I don't think practice modes need to be beef'd up with all this high-speed shit. All that's required is a stellar record function, everything else is a plus.

How about if they allowed you to tag more than 6 moves? Or perhaps maybe allowed you to tag moves in online practice mode for both players to see & use to practice with?

I mean games got a really awesome practice mode, just comparing to some other games I've played like cross tekken, such a shitty practice mode, only thing if ask for is a lag inducer

PND OmegaK

Drunk and Orderly
Hitbox/Hurtbox data.
Settings are remembered from previous session.
Audio/Visual cues for punishment windows and blockstun.

Let me see if I understand you: you want to induce lag in practice mode to mimic online play? If that's what you mean, I can see how that could be useful, but I'd rather them just work on having a better online experience...

Yeah that's exactly what I mean, well I mean yeah that would be better obviously but I've just pretty much accepted that no online can be perfect in a fighting game

How about if they just allowed you to do online practice without another player? I think that would do the trick. Heck, if that happens, they could allow friends to join mid-session (with settings for open practice, friends only, or invite only).

Except that the connections vary, and a real shitty connections wouldn't always connect but sometimes do like in ranked or something so you could just be ready for any kind of connections, not all online connections are the same. No? And even if you found a person with each kind of connection, it would be undoubtedly easier to just be able to set certain connection environments in an offline practice mode.

Although your idea is interesting, I think it's something that just isn't practical in the overall practice space. Try not to "overthink" things.

The Record mode (defensive training) could use a sort of Setup slots, where on each slot you would record different stuff under 30 secs or less, and then you could flip the switch on each one to play randomly. Adding a frequence rate option to determine how fast the setup is performed too.
