Match-Up Discussion - Demolition Sonya Demolition: what tier is she: is this correct? (67th)?

i was looking up tier lists, and glanced at my new main sonya demolition: and seen she was only to spots above gunslinger EB, i just cant believe she is that far down, yes she has a strong game,

she does need a couple things to be tweaked maybe faster reload on grenades, a few HKD's that allow reload either or. but she has more potential than 67th

A VERY uneducated guess would be she is slightly outside top 10. I think demo might be her strongest variation but I think all of them are almost equally strong and gives a huge ability counterpick without switching characters. SF has some really strong zoning and is safe as fuck. Demo has nice decent zonign and high damage. Covert ops has fucking strong 50/50's and strong ass parries.

Reptile and Takeda are in the top 5, Wargod Kotal is in the bottom 5. Ignore that list. People are still sleeping on some characters, give it time.

Whatever system Eventhubs is using is obviously flawed.

Plus most people are ranking Characters based on how viable they are overall. Not on a variation basis.

As for Demolitions Sonya, she's really good. Really, really good. But it's hard to say where she is. My personal opinion is she's top tier, but i wouldn't say "top 10". I mean that in the sense, "she's either top 10, or plenty good enough to compete with the top 10"

Demo Sonya has some "quirks" that more or less come with the territory of how grenades work. The thing is, they're completely character agnostic quirks. They're weaknesses the entire cast can take advantage of regardless of the character.

1) Breakers really hurt her. Break after she's expended her grenades doing a kombo, but before she is able to do her reload-facilitating ender. It seems counter-intuitive to break at the end of the kombo when most of the damage is already done, which is why few are taking advantage of this, but it REALLY messes her up.

2) She needs to have grenades at all time. Self explanatory here, but it's a bit harder when you take this to the logical conclusion. I've had matches where this happens: Near the end of the round I'm combo-ing my opponent, and I'll realize I have to end my combo early with a reload which lets them keep the remainder of their lifebar. Because if I finish off the lifebar, the round stops, and I can't get my free reload. This happens waaaaay more often then you'd think. It's lost me rounds even, but reloads really are that important to her gameplay. Combo-oing to win a round, but being left with no grenades, can easily lose her the next round.

One the positive side. She is definitely really good. Her pressure and mind games she gets with throwing out grenades after her mixups are really powerful. She's got alot of really good buttons as well:

In this variation especially, f2 becomes a scary good footsie tool, because it goes from being neutral on block, to being a pseudo-frametrap with shock grenades. F4 is also really good, +2 on block so it's a natural frame trap. This variation also doesn't mind doing Sonya's pathetically +3 on hit throw as much because she's better in more places on screen. So resetting the neutral game isn't as bad for her.

f2 is soooooo strong in demo, gives you 33% with 3 grenades midscreen. Plus you can throw it out without a grenade when you've made them respect your option to cancel in to grenade and just go in to mixup instead. YOLO

Don't look at those tier lists, waste of time.

I can't call her top tier because she's way too dependant on grenades. Without them, she's literally variationless. She gets three grenades, and has a slow reload speed. But with the grenades, she's extremely dangerous. But she's not always dangerous, so I'll say she's slightly below top tier.

Tier lists at this point are SO off & misinformed. Just pretend they're herpes & stay away. The game is still SO fresh, and 2 characters (6 variations coming) left to join.

Event hubs tier list is completely off. last time I looked at it it said nimble reptile was top tier and I cried myself to sleep

Best to keep away from tier lists for a long time. They just start arguments.

We'd have an official tier list or let people post them, if we weren't trying to "score numbers" or popularity among the community. They want to do something no one else is doing, and thats fine but that isn't what TYM is about, not to mention, it's just not how games work. It's more or less a ratings thing. Don't buy into it. Don't believe the hype.
