Sony shuts down the PlayStation network indefinitely

Pretty crazy. Hopefully this gets resolved soon. It's amazing how fast the PS3 went from seeming secure to being blown up like this. I wonder how long the console would have gone without issue if they hadn't removed Other OS.

I consider this whole thing a PS3 security issue because I believe the reports that this is all because of a custom firmware that allowed hacked PS3s to join the dev net and use any bogus CC#s they entered to buy PSN items.

The PS3/PSN security was always a house of cards. Pull one out and the whole thing collapses.

So the word is hackers gained access to customer name, address, country, email, birthday, login, and password.

Time to lock shit down.

Edit: and, maybe credit card info. As someone that just got electronically robbed, I can't say it emphatically enough: lock that shot down.

Edit2: ars technica's coverage: http://arstechnica.com/#!/gaming/news/2011/04/sonys-black-eye-is-a-pr-problem-not-a-legal-one.ars

And the sony blog post about it: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/26/update-on-playstation-network-and-qriocity/?1

So, here in Alabama tornadoes have destroyed all the power lines from the nuclear plant and most of us in my area won't have power until at least Tuesday. (I'm posting from work where we have a generator)

Maybe the PSN will be back by the time I have power again at my house?
Or can Alabama rebuild it's physically destroyed power infrastructure more quickly than Sony can fix the PSN?

I really hope your infrastructure is back sooner O.O

Either being rebuilt soon would be a feat. But a feat in the real world is worth 1000000 in the video game world.
