1. RyuuJin882 (Ronin Takeda)
2. Fisherman Dill (Tarkatan Alien, MoS Ermac, HQT Predator)
3. Stryfe82 (Boneshaper Shinnok)
What an interesting week! This was the 1st weekly for everyone's 5-day-old KP2 characters, and also the "Gods of Austin" Vibu, ATP and Henzzar stepped out of the ring to give other players a chance at victory. But there was a catch. The winner of our weekly would then have to face the Boss Battle Tower. A tower of 3 3/5 sets featuring the Austin Gods and their variation locked KP2 characters!
Road to Grand Finals
The games were done. The competition was cranked up. With ATP, Henzzar and Vibu awaiting the champion in the Boss Battle Tower, everyone had a chance at victory. There was no mercy from all the players that showed up to prove themselves.
Fisherman Dill, who is relatively new to our group and only played in one weekly a few weeks ago, surprised everyone with his current mastery of the game. After a Round 1 loss to Dust, his Tarkatan Alien and MoS Ermac left the Loser's Bracket in a bloody wake. The fabled Brytor came out of retirement with a spectacular display of his old namesake, Sektor. He, like many others, showed excellent knowledge of only his 5-day-old character.
In a game flooded with new, unexplored characters and heavy 50/50 characters, Stryfe82 made it to Grand Finals with good ol' faithful Boneshaper. Unfortunately, he would have to face myself and my Ronin Takeda. His lack of MU experience killed him and I was propelled to Grand Finals. In Losers Finals Stryfe had to face the killer himself, Fisherman Dill. Dill, with his knowledge of so many characters made a clever counter-pick to Stryfe82. The dirty man played HQT predator.
Grand Finals RyuuJin882 (W) v Fisherman Dill (L)
Before we sat down, Dill asked me "What's your worst MU?" But it was all business from me: button check, handshake, FIGHT. However, he actually did pick one of my worst MUs...Sub Zero. I went up 2-0 before Dill made another counter-pick to Shirai Ryu Takeda. His hard-to-blockables won him 2 straight. On the verge of a bracket reset I spaced him out more, paid special attention to his super meter and used every dirty tool in my arsenal to keep him locked in the corner. My Takeda would prevail and Austin would have a new champion.
Next Time...
Fisherman Dill, Brytor and a handful of other fighters are a real threat to the established top player base of Austin. Next week ATP, Vibu and Henzzar will return to tournament life to be proven dead gods or to re-establish their dominance.

Boss Battle Tower
Ryuujin882 (Ronin Takeda)
vs
Vibu (Bartitsu Bo Rai Cho)
Henzzar (Cyrax)
ATP (Acidic Alien)
Prize: $20
Challenge: Defeat 2/3 opponents
Rules: Fight Austin's top 3 in 3 sets of 3/5 where each Boss is variation locked to a new KP2 character.
Vibu and I played casuals before the tournament, so we both had a feel for what we needed to do. Between Bartitsu's and Ronin's long normals spacing and patience was the definition of this set. Vibu used Bartitu's d4 to hit me under my projectile. I used the blade and Ex Projectile to keep him at bay. In the end I had the right reads on his reversals and wakeups, and I took the set.
Henzzar mained Cyrax for the entirety of MK9. I knew this, and I'll say I went in to the set unsure at the very least. Instead of rushing him down, I zoned the hell out of him. When he started throwing out more nets; I had no idea, but I believed and I threw out a reflect...and it worked! I also took this set and an extra $20.
ATP clearly grinded the most during the past week with his Acidic Alien. His setups, mixups, combos, and game plan all seemed 100% perfect. It was like he had been playing alien all along since April 2015. Somehow I took game 1, but the rest of the set was all ATP. In any case, I'm gonna donate all my winnings to buy ATP and Vibu some actual groceries.
